Floyd is another older vet pass rusher on the market. Dude has been extremely durable though. Hasn’t missed a game in several years. Impressive streak and always productive.
Floyd managed to play in every single regular-season game in 2024, which extended his active-game streak to 116 contests dating back to Week 1 of the 2018 season when he played for the Bears.
Also depends on the kind of “turd”. If it’s off the field turd, I think they can make exceptions depending on what it is. If he takes plays off and is lazy and practices like it doesn’t matter….no shot. I’ll admit I haven’t followed him closely enough to know.
My bigger concern is he’s not really a fit. He’s OK setting the edge at 6’6, 240, but not generally what we look for. Always kind of been a weakness of his game. So would he be a SAM for us? Seems likely, and I doubt we’d be that interested. Especially since re-signing Barnes.
Didn’t he play DE in Buffalo and SF? I honestly don’t know, but that’s how he’s listed. So he may be capable, despite not the bigger body we usually employ
I think so? But they’re OK using smaller edges than we’ve been, at least under Dan. In SF they’ve even got a name for it, the joker or rover or something like that. Basically it means “small starting edge meant to pressure the QB.”
Floyd is a candidate to be a post-June 1 release, as that designation would allow the 49ers to save $7.95 million against the cap in 2025. Without that, the club will save only $1.48 million.
