Levi Onwuzurike cleared to practice to start Lions training camp

You can count me as one who is setting themselves up for disappointment. Yes, “he still has a ways to go” in rocking up to his NFL potential–which I believe is what AG was referring to. Yes, he’s lost time and development. But he does have a year of experience and he had enough talent to be drafted at #41 two years ago.

3 padded practices in and no set backs yet. If…if his back is fully healed…why couldn’t he be a contributor this year? SOL get no breaks, but the BNL do.

Oooo! That’s the kiss of death. Never admit you made it up.
It’s okay to pass on bullshit. You can’t make it up and post it.

I think it was sometime near the end of the Korean War, no?

I really hope he is healthy and can play. I’m still expecting an injury settlement and retirement though if I’m being honest. The way the coaches talk about him just doesn’t seem like good news long term.

I think the Lions will give him plenty of reps in preseason in hopes he either deserves a roster spot or shows enough promise that he’s tradable but I do think we have one spot on the roster for a 3tech type and either Levi or Covington will get that spot.

This so cool to have to real hope for Levi. At this point, Levi as a serviceable DL reserve is gravy. You’re right, gradually give him lots of reps to find out where he’s at. I don’t think he’ll have to show much more than being dependably healthy to beat out Covington because of age, Levi being under contract for next year, and no cap hit for cutting Covington.

Is it possible they could try to sneak him onto the practice squad? With his injury history I’m not sure how many teams have him on their radar.

FWIW.

I don’t see Levi tradable unless you don’t care what you get and just want the roster spot…and really if I were a team, I wouldn’t give up anything more than a 7th round pick just so that I can bring him in and have the doctors check him out as opposed to him hitting the waiver wire.

I doubt he makes the 53 man roster I expect the Lions would like to put him on IR an give him year to really get health. Fans need to remember he has missed two of the past three football seasons.

IMO he will need a year to get to 100% . He is under contract for 2024. Not sure how they will handle when cut down date happens. I like idea of him getting the work an testing his back. I don’t expect him to make final 53 . I would like to keep him an have him work for full year. Would be great get him on PS. Right now he has trouble in camp with OL players who will not make it.

That IS a tough one. BroMart, Alim and Buggs are in. With Alim lighter and faster, it’s between Levi and Benito for the fourth spot, no? It would be safer to put Benito on the PS, so maybe Levi makes the 53. The only thing about that is we can no longer say “I told you so”, LOL. Honestly, though. like the rest of you, you’d love to be wrong in these cases.

Honestly, after listening to AG break down his situation, i think he goes to the practice squad. His back might be ok but he needs a full year in the weight room to get back to form. He has the heart it seems. But like Coyote said, he needs time.

Sure but you run the risk of losing him for nothing. Usually a guy drafted this high can garner a later round draft pick if he shows anything during the preseason.

But if we do try to squeeze him into the practice squad I’d view that as we don’t really think he’s shown much and we’re still holding out hope.

lol …. This guy doesn’t have a clue. He’s basing his belief off off a PFF grade.

It’s funny on one play…. Levi was late off the snap. His defender just waited for Levi to come to him and engaged him in the block. The OG easily stands Levi up. Then when the play comes that way the OG easily pushes Levi away from the play and 3 other Lions move in for the tackle. This evaluation of that play is that Levi blew the play up. WTF ?? That was a horrible play by Levi. He did everything wrong and did nothing to affect the play. This guys basing his evaluation off the fact that Levi was stood up behind the OL push.

Personally I think it was a lazy play by the OG and by Levi and the OG still won the matchup.

He looks like a High school kid in his moms house and his evaluation is right on point with that.

I can’t remember if it was someone on here that pointed it out how late Levi is off the snap or if it was part of one of his Scouting Reports but he is not very quick off the snap.

I have mentioned it several times. I went back and reviewed every snap he made that year. I documented how often he was late off the snap and how often he got pushed off the ball on run plays. It was an alarming amount. It leaves you thinking he’s lazy.

I get he had a bad back but that doesn’t make you slow off the snap. If it does then you should be on the IR but when his own reports are of him saying he is fine… well i start to question his motivation.

Personally, I think he’s likely a lost cause but we will know soon enough. If he makes the roster than maybe there’s still hope for the kid.

I’ve been hearing that he is playing exclusively w the 3’s and 4’s and isn’t winning his matchups. He isn’t standing out. The only person looking less is Julian Okwara……and Levi has an excuse……no practice or ball really in 4 years. I highly doubt either makes the team. Think Julian is a lock to be cut.

Also can’t stress enough. He is working his ass off, Levi, and wants to belong and wants to produce. His body is just betraying him and has betrayed him bc he has missed so much time during his crucial developmental years.

Levi is going to make the team. I’ll be shocked if Brad cuts bait after he finally seems to be on the mend.

I heard Jeff Risdon saying this yesterday on a YouTube stream. I’m really pulling for Levi, but it doesn’t look great at the moment.

I mean hopefully. Gotta see how he plays in preseason and how the body holds up. I’d be getting him big reps in these preseason games, he’s barely played football over the past 3 years.
