I find the expert worship to be funny honestly. I’ve been designing vehicles for decades and there are weekend warriors who pimp their ride doing just fine without my input. It’s not like there is a degree in NFL football.
Would I want a surgeon? Hell no. So I think there are degrees of expertise needed. And football lies at the very low end. You need to love football and have a talent. More like a world class video game player without the need for fast hands.

The part of faux expertise that always cracks me up is no understanding or acknowledgment of scale. Sometimes I’ll go with some foodie and the restaurant is slammed and maybe not performing up to par and the gentleman (it’s usually a guy) will draw conclusions from his dinner parties of four and act like it make him an authority on the operation of the 150 seat restaurant that is currently mid fog of war.

It varies of course. It usually some small miss. For instance somebody’s medium rare steak is pushing medium. “I can cook a better steak than this.” Meanwhile, anyone that has actually worked in kitchens can from the bustling nature of the front of the house imagine that the meat cook has his broiler packed to the max and is currently swearing at the receipt machine printing out additional tickets. It’s just two totally different skills.
