New opponent added to Detroit Lions 2021 schedule

December 28, 2020 by Don Drysdale

Sharing is caring!

In case you have not already heard, the NFL had made the decision to play a 17-game regular-season schedule beginning in 2021.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the extra game will be added by doing a 1-game crossover (1 v. 1, 2 v. 2, etc.)

  • NFC East vs. AFC East
  • NFC North vs. AFC West
  • NFC South vs. AFC South
  • NFC West vs. AFC North

Re: 17-game slate, the inter-conference rotation for '21 …

Full crossover: NFC East/AFC West, NFC North/AFC North, NFC South/AFC East, NFC West, AFC South.

1-game crossover (1 v. 1, 2 v. 2, etc.): NFC East/AFC East, NFC North/AFC West, NFC South/AFC South, NFC West/AFC North.

With the Detroit Lions already securing last place in the NFC North, they will square off against either the Denver Broncos or the Los Angeles Chargers , depending on what happens in Week 17. As we speak, the Broncos are currently in last place in the AFC West with a 5-10 record, while the Chargers sit at 6-9.

schedule tougher next year, for sure.

Absolutely. I thought the same thing myself when I saw that schedule.

All the more reason to trade Stafford and go full rebuild. No chance at the playoffs next year anyways.

so you want to lose both 19 million AND Matthew Stafford…and then we play a rookie QB in a tougher season as well?

The defense is by far the worst in the entire NFL. Hypothetically Stafford could throw 40 TD’s next year and we’d still be 5-11. Keeping an often injured Stafford just delays the rebuild. Make a good trade and wish Stafford all the best. Just listen to his wife, she’s clearly done with Michigan.

The dumpster fire Fatty P and Special Needs Bob created is the main reason to go full rebuild. Set Stafford free.

I also want to trade him before he takes the final hit that ends his career and we get nothing.

well that’s great and all, but none of us have a say…outside of what each one of us thinks is the best way.
we don’t even know our GM or HC–“yet”. they get the marching orders, we find out what they already did…after they already did it.

we get to cheer it on or get bent about it. they move on from Stafford, doesn’t concern me…what does is we would be burning good money and sending him to.

I do not want to go into a difficult season with a rookie QB on a team that isn’t half-built. right now? I don’t even know who the new guy will make the team lose or who’s kept, who WILL BE on the roster or anything. but I can tell you I don’t want to send Stafford packing AND pay 20 million/ losing it to “right now.” 2021 offseason MAY have fantastic QB’s by comparison to this draft…again, I haven’t looked at prospects…until about Febuary.

If the new GM and Head Coach really wanted to keep Stafford for one more year and draft a QB to let sit behind Stafford and hopefully he can mentor the rookie for a year that might work. However, when I listen carefully to his wife and his buddy Orlovsky, I think he wants out of Detroit and has no interest in another rebuild and why would he want to sit through a rebuild in his prime years?

:man_shrugging: maybe he does…maybe he doesn’t want out…BUT I know full well Matt Stafford will make an announcement when & if he is done. until he does? I don’t listen to others on the matter.

If you weren’t going to listen why would you keep asking me questions? haha

don’t recall asking you anything…

Might a$ well let the top 16 team$ from each conference make the playoff$ while they are at it.
I can see the league putting more teams in the playoffs until it is even more watered down than it is now.
I fear it will eventually become like the NBA where the regular season is completely pointless.

I feel that way too. I feel like it already is becoming more NBA-ish, every year.

You prefer last-place finishes and double-digit losses with Stafford highlights.

you prefer to shove some raw ass rookie QB to the wolves with our O-line …that saw Stafford beat to hell? and playing on a stitched together team-While you pay 19 million in dead cap to let Stafford go to another team?

Play a rookie when he’s ready; play a journeyman, Average Generic NFL QB until then.

Use your most valuable trade item to give the new regime something more than 5 picks to get the LONG rebuild going.

Sure sounds like the Staffords are itching for the opportunity elsewhere, but just don’t want to say it.

Brother - this is straight up putting words in people’s mouth. Nobody says that. Nobody thinks that. It’s you being naughty. Conversations that are honest make more sense to everyone, and actually can go somewhere.
