Lions awarded Paul Perkins and cut CJ Anderson

NICE!!! Can we finally have our best RB on the field on 3rd and short? KJ should’ve been our short yardage back this year and last year. KJ has shown that he can find the smallest crease to get positive yards. I don’t know why we kept thinking we needed a big slow RB to pound the rock to get a yard.

I viewed CJ as an upgrade from Blount, but he was clearly not putting in the work. He gained weight, and though he is still not ineffective, you have to believe he could be better if he wa more fit.

Hoping this dude brings more juice to the O. Looks like we’re getting faster. I like that. Hope he can do well in short yardage.

How much of a factor will this play if one of our opponents signs JJ or CJ?

Too early yet to gain much info because this offense is just 2 games old? Or do veterans keep quiet about that stuff? Or will we see GB swoop in and take advantage of this?

As said above, maybe CJ was okay with it due to lack of playing time or asked his way out…

KJ is now the biggest back. CJ didn’t offer much. We’ve got a lot of speed in the backfield now.

I wouldn’t worry. The Lions change their game plan week to week. Someone different might be the start next week.

I am super happy that this happened. He just was not producing, looked super overweight and slow.

Ty has really impressed. When we first drafted him I thought he was just going to be a speed guy. He’s pretty tough. I feel better about him slamming it up in there as there is always the possibility of him taking it outside and going the distance.

Exactly what I was thinking, WCLF

Read something about Anderson having a very poor pass blocking grade in 2 games. Add in the lack of explosion in the running game, one can see why he’s gone.

Good, I never bought the hype with him… He’s the same player we passed on after working him out last year before signing with the Rams.

Paul Perkins is sort of Riddick-like only runs a bit better than he catches https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/P/PerkPa00.htm

After watching Anderson stop in the backfield on a 3rd and short, I was instantly done with him. Big men can’t stop and start in short yardage! Know your gap before the ball hits your gut and get your yard.

Nope. Like Blount last year, he’s not that brave anymore.

This doesn’t move the needle. Anderson is awful, but the Lions RB depth is suspect. TY Johnson looks ok… but can’t rely on that.

Lions should’ve never got rid of Dwayne Washington

I agree we are suspect behind KJ and that is inexcusable. But Washington was not the answer.

lets see… we agree on

L Blount 2.0 check
slow and not the best passpro 2.0 check
saves us some cash check

I will add to this by reminding us who is the OC now?!

Bevel want to run… and he has have been given some level of green light to ask for players to be cut to achieve this goal!

he dropped ZZ, keeps RBs rotating in and out of the roster and PS looking for upgrades.

MP pulled agnew for poor performance - adjusted the game plan for TJ to block more

we are seeing things never done before - wait! are we becoming a real NFL Team?!

Here’s what LionsWire/USA TODAY says about Perkins:

Perkins is definitely more of a committee back than someone who will demand touches, but he has quick feet, above-average vision and good lateral movement. He is a one-cut runner who should fit right into the Lions zone blocking scheme.

I think this move is all about cost savings, and Ty Johnson.

It’s also about not sucking…like CJ

I’ve felt from the beginning that Ty Johnson could be real solid on 6-8 touches per game. We definitely need to add another guy capable of carrying the load during this draft. Fortunately the college ranks are pumping out embarrassing riches at the RB position. Hopefully KJ can stay healthy this year.
