Why? Just why? Can we get a real play caller? This reminds me of the Stafford days, except with worse QB and a Steve Mariucci offense. No motion. No playaction.
We finally have a decent running game, yet we arent working off of it? Why?
Also, why arent we using motion to help Goff makes reads by seeing if the defense is in man or zone coverage?
Please, get someone in here to run the offense next season. I LOVE MCDC, but he needs to stay in his lane and be what he is: A great leader.
I’m all for a new QB and OC. Are there any Shanahan type guys out there? Maybe Ben Johnson can read and learn the Shanahan way?
When you have trouble getting everyone in the right place pre snap motion complicates things. Perhaps year 1 with the staff, the OC changes, inexperienced WRs etc. are part of it.
I’m just really tired of the excuses and I do not buy that it is because it is year 1 and all that.

The lack of playaction usage is alarming. Goff did that all the time in LA with Gurley.
Regardless, it is clearly time for a change as far as a play caller. Just too many issues in the passing game and putting players in good spots. Goff doesn’t do the play caller any favors though as he misses wide open reads/WR.
Ya know, I like Jared as a person but I see a massive lack of confidence in him. Either that or he really is just waiting until he is released.
I mean, i am wondering why we dont see Raymond on some deep crossers or even shallow crossers? Hes quick…and has 4.38 long speed.
I don’t disagree that they should be integrating more complexity or movement into their offense, I think if we were to look for a reason that it isn’t that I would likely say that pre snap movement with a young team could lead to more penalties/confusion and maybe they are trying to work through fundamental play design… ya idk best I could come up with

From what I’ve read, DC said after the Vikings game that they really are working on the passing game and trying to get Goff more confident and help him with progressions and yada yada yada…
What took so long? We didnt hear of this dysfunction in training camp/preseason?
I just find it as making an excuse.

Well, perhaps this is more insight into why LYNN is no longer in charge. MCDC has been calling more PA and motion since taking over. Lynn was just bad. bad…BAD.
Just listening to A-Lynn yesterday, he’s describing Goff as a “trust” QB, in that he has to trust his receivers in order for him to get in a rhythm. They’ve been trying to take shots down field all season but they haven’t been thrown. Goff is too “something”, I just don’t know what it is. Dim would be any easy answer considering some of the plays this season. Uncomfortable or rattled is another. I’ve said all along and am still persuaded that DC calling plays is to help alleviate that apprehension that Goff is playing with.
Campbell has complained, on a number of occasions, about WRs not running routes correctly (even if they’re off a yard or two, it can screw up the play), so it’s not terribly surprising that the offensive coaches don’t want to put too much on their plate.
Perhaps, given the chemistry between Goff and Reynolds, the Lions will incorporate some more motion down the stretch.
I think more then anything, it has been the WR’s lack of knowledge in the offense. Amon-Ra is a rookie playing heavy snaps. Kalif has never played in this offense and hasn’t played a ton on offense is his previous years. Hodge and Benson came in right before the season. Its been said many times by the staff that Goff was having trouble trusting his WR’s to be in the right spot because they were making so mant mistakes, which is why he was so hesitant early in the season.
I am not making excuses for Goff. I have been one of his biggest critics. It is abundantly clear that Goff is starting to trust his WR’s more, especially with the pickup of Reynolds.
Those are the things that really scare me. Zerio’ing in on Hockenson and pulling the trigger when he was double covered when Amon Ra was running wide open over the middle is a major problem. If Goff can keep playing the way he is for the rest of the season he will have earned the right to start in 2022.
Everything already stated here about the why of no PA…. And it confidence of the QB….
He’s getting it back now and with that we may see him direct better presnap which will allow PA again imho
You all complaining- that’s all you’re doing…. You can’t control it so relax…. We see positive change happening and you’re all crying as it’s not happening as fast as you’d like it

It is a big if. I was skeptical of Goff to begin the year and by the time he got hurt I had already completely written him off. His play since he has come back have given me a glmmer of hope that he can at least be a reasonable bridge QB.
