Lions free-agents entering this off-season

BroMart has seen 0 play time in 2 years.
Sorsdal at least has had a chances.

Mitchell wasnt good at anything. Slow, couldn’t catch and only half way decent at blocking. No value there.

If the Lions get real depth at DT/NT and not a bunch of off-injured aging vets. I could see BroMart being waived. They still have Reader, McNeil, Wingo and C Smith. All are ahead of him. So if they add just 1 or 2 more DTs. Hes out.

Sorsdal is just more likely to stay because of the fact of having ~10 OL on the 53. I get hes not great but i have a hard time finding 9-10 more guys that absolutely should be ahead of him.

He actually caught every pass that was thrown to him. So, at least one thing shows that you weren’t necessarily paying attention to him. Makes me doubt everything else that is said. But, time will tell.

Unfortunately, for the Lions, they had several guys on the 53 that didn’t or couldn’t contribute. BroMart never contributed positively, Manu didn’t contribute. Sordsal provided limited contribution. Mahogany began to contribute late. Rakestraw didn’t really contribute.
So, when injuries came, the Lions had to find other guys, off the street, to contribute. Hopefully, next season the aforementioned guys can actually contribute and the need to find starters, due to injury, will be nullified. Minimally.

We have beaten the Sorsdal topic to death. But when we had injuries this year, he was never next man up. Kayode started. Mahogany started. Skipper started. We elevated Jamarco Jones a few games even from the practice squad. All signs point to Sorsdal being low on the depth chart and not trusted in games. 0 offensive snaps played in 2024.

And while we have heard very positive updates on Manu from coaches and players, nothing on Sorsdal. Again he was a 5th rounder no big deal.

Reminds me of when we took Chris Greenwood D3 CB round 5 many moons ago

Just a dart throw on a developmental guy we loved obviously

He’s only 35 years old… Prob give us more snaps than Moseley

2 point conversion disaster in Dallas 2 years ago. Mitchell was the target, no catch. But apparently 2 point conversions don’t count for stats, which is odd. Gotta drive gamblers nuts.

True. But hey… :man_shrugging:t5:

As I think about the 2025 team I know one thing:
Brad is likely to focus on signing our own guys overall.

Less expensive role players are easy to predict. Levi, Zeitler and Davis are not easy to predict. Tim Patrick isn’t easy to predict. Iffy is a bit tougher to predict.

My guess is two out of three of Davis, Zeitler and Levi are back. I think Patrick and Iffy are also back.

My guess right now is Brad prioritizes Levi and Zeitler.

I agree. I also believe that Levi and Zeitler will be the priorities. With Alim not likely playing in September, and GG showing that he’s ready for a depth role with his versatility, I can definitely see the trenches as the main concern. We’ll need both Z and Levi.
Brad can trade for a CB to start and another draft pick for a reserve Safety.

Was just thinking about jonte green the other day. And as a a Lions fans now I may never have the opportunity to fantasize about these absurd no name draft picks finally amounting to something by the last year of their contract.

I guess we have bromarts and sorsdals and manu’s but it’s just different

I do not believe that either Zeitler or GLasgow will be on the 53 next season. Mahongany was drafted to play RG (not LG) and while they could move him to LG for a season I think that they may prefer to just put him in at RG and address the LG position this offseason either by FA or draft (I am leaning toward the later). Glasgow has shown nothing but depth level play this last season and it might be a sign that he is at the end of his playing career.

Sorsdal is a complete unknown at this time. No clue on how the coaching staff view him. WHile I tend to agree with most that he will probable be cut this season.

I do not see the Lions looking to grab a OT this offseason other then resigning Skipper. I believe that they will continue developing Manu and try to get him ready for next season.

Also I would like to add that the way the LIons use the PS is the biggest reason that some of those young guys do not get playing time. The Lions depth chart is not the depth chart that they use for games. So many of the young players are on the roster to protect them from being poached by another team and not because they are considered or expected to be higher on the depth chart.

While I think Mahogany’s best spot might be RG - that’s certainly where most analysts thought he’d end up in the pros - word from some of our insiders is we actually prefer him on the left side. Something to do with that whole one leg being shorter than the other thing (the reason he fell), apparently in his specific case it makes it easier to play on the left side? He looked great at RG to me when he played there, so I don’t know. Just what’s been implied by some of the board’s insiders.

If you ever listened to TJ Lang’s explanation of the Guard positions, the RG is the Guard most able to play with athleticism or with OT-like skills. (Wish I had the video bookmarked)

I can’t recall exactly what all he highlighted, whether it was RG pulling or RT pulling, he mentioned it being a more demanding position than LG. Obviously LG has its own challenges, but to hear TJ the RG needs to be swifter on his feet.

Huh. See I was always under the impression the LG needed to be more athletic - which was one of the main reasons why Glasgow and Sorsdal struggle more over there, and why it was Jonah’s spot and the only spot Awosika fits. RG is usually the road grader, or so I thought.

Let me guess TJ Lang played RG

Great post. With a guy like Fraley around it is always best to draft and develop our talent here.

Even a guy like Glasgow or Evan Brown that could come back home after leaving.

We have nice developmental guys.

Let’s keep adding

TJ Lang has of course forgotten more about football than I will ever know, but in my experience the phone booth mauler is usually placed on the right side and a more athletic OG on the left.

This always made sense to me for a number of reasons.

1:) a lot of teams are right handed in terms of their power stuff. You have the big lumbering, mauling RT. Couple him with a powerhouse of a RG and you can wash out a lot of fronts.

2:) from a pass protection standpoint most QBs are RH so if you’re going to have modest liabilities in pass pro better for it to be on that side. Though interior pressure is god awful no matter what.

3:) many teams RTs aren’t terrific with second level on the move stuff so having a hyper athletic Guard on the left side that can pull back to the right side and be the linemen with assignments in space seems logical. Obviously we have a unicorn at RT so we have all sorts of options here.
