So I have using this line for like 20+ years and maybe 30.
There is a documentary about pimping. I actually think it is called American Pimp. And they have a “Pimping Convention” and some dude says that.
It is an iconic line. “Pimping ain’t easy”
With all this said, I mean this is kind of one of the foundation pieces to how MCDC coaches and the culture he has created. You have to earn it in practice and during the game. I think this is probably the biggest one IMO. It then demands naturally accountability. And once it is place it runs on its own and the whole team owns it.
Man, I’m really rooting for him to be a great pick. I just want to see JAMO get that swag back that he had at Alabama. It seems like he went all Austin Powers and lost some of his Mojo.
Sitting out too long as a rookie with injuries (or suspension) is never great for young guys that lack enough maturity, (let alone challenging if you do have that maturity), with all the fame and money that comes with being an NFL top draft pick.
The guys in the locker room have his back which means a lot.
All I can say is that players around Eric Ebron tried to mentor him to the point that later in his career in detroit, he was saying the right things in interviews so that he sounded like he “got it” and was mature, but you could just tell that he never was embodying the kind of real maturity that went along with the verbal schtick.
I still think Jamo can be a really good player. But the sooner he gets on that train to being a contributor the better for his future.
He is what I thought he was. I said in the summer he will not be on the Lions roster in September 2024. Of course I got lambasted by the homers that be on this board. I am sticking by that. I would hope Holmes could get something for him in trade just based on name and draft status but I think that ship has sailed. I am still hoping I’m wrong but I know in my heart this kid will never materialize here. When I think about matchups for the upcoming opposition week to week I don’t even think of him as a contributor on the roster.
I am not sure I am here yet.
But it seems obvious that he has not become what I had envisioned YET.
Some food for thought.
Typically it takes a WR a full year to acclimate to the NFL. Meaning most do not really show true promise until year 2. With Jamo basically missing most of last year and now the beginning of this year he has not had the connected time with the offense and QB to likely move into the productive phase yet. Now 100% this is me being a bit optimistic. But I think it is also prudent. Many players in this league are late bloomers and need more adjustment time. Look at Geno Smith right now. I would say with confidence he is a top 5 guy in the NFC and actually someone I would take if we did not have Goff (not saying I would trade just saying). And Goff has gone on record as stating that the NFLs win now mentality is often a detriment to the league and player development as it takes time for some players to get it.
Jamo has the physical tools, he has the team first attitude, and he is a hard worker at practice. I suspect he needs to work harder off the field and also work on his craft more (catching mechanics, route trees, and route paths). But he has what I would consider some of the needed components which are he is talented and he is a team first guy and he seems to love football. He likely just needs to time to develop or learn to study better in all areas and work on his preparation. If this is not a prime example of the difference between college and pro I do not know what is.
Guys say it all the time that the transition from college to pro is as big as hs to college in many ways.
What a bullshit line in the article, “In addition to his minimal performance, one glaring play that stood out was when Williams alligator-armed a wide-open pass across the middle from Jared Goff.”
He was going to be absolutely destroyed by the ILB had he caught that pass. Even the announcers talked about it and why it wasn’t some egregious drop.
You were the guy that wanted them to throw $20+ mil a year a Golladay, so not sure about your WR breakdowns.
I hope Jamo makes it. His speed will buy him some time here … and I like that he forces defenses to make a decision between our run game, and/or getting burnt deep.
I don’t know about that. I was watching some All 22 the other day. The defender was still a good ten yards from Jamo when he dropped that. Plenty of time for Jamo to secure it and either brace himself or make a move
I bet too they run that play again and Jamo throttles his route a little to give himself more room. Was a really well schemed play and great throw
He literally has not had any time to practice with the team. Injured last year so no practice during training camp. Injured early this training camp so almost no practice during training camp. Then the suspension.
I like that he is running routes with Goff after practice. Never know for sure but I think with his talent if he keeps getting extra work with Goff this will eventually work.
