Lions Mock Game

I made that same comparison a few days ago and a few ppl didn’t like it. He’s got a really high ceiling IMO… Hell never be a top 15 pass rusher in the league, but that’s not what we need… I think he’s the perfect compliment player for Hutch and exactly they type of player this staff wants

Walker is twitchy, violent, and has great play strength. There is a reason he was selected number 1 overall. Faulk does not play with that kind of twitch or violence and he will certainly not be the 1st overall selection. I understand you said sort of but some people may think you are saying equal to. We could say he is sort of like JJ Watt as well because they are similar in size.

I raise my hand and felt obligated to defend Walker once again. lol

I did say tick down as an athlete. :man_shrugging:. IMO the best of Kendrick Faulk was a more impactful college football player than the best of Travon Walker. Faulk was thought of as a top 3-5 pick prior to the season. His play then regressed substantially. That’s where the scheme change deep dive comes in and that is both beyond my abilities and the amount of free time that I have.

If a team ends up with the 2024 version I think they’ll be quite happy. I’ve discussed this with @thats2 a bunch, but I tend to be more open to guys like that. I’m more open minded on Ant Hill as well. Some people just have a big problem with final year regression prospects. I get it. It is a scary profile.

I obviously don’t share that opinion. Nothing against Faulk but I held Walker in high regard as a prospect and even more so now as a pro. I would much prefer to compare Faulk to the other DEs in his draft class.

Cool. 2024 Faulk was still a more impactful college football player than any year of Walker’s college career.

Trayvon played a role on one of college footballs greatest defenses ever. I’m sure if they were not happy with the impact he had in that role Smart would have had someone else available.

That’s fine. That might be an excuse or that might be a reason. Doesn’t change the fact that what I said was true.

Walker was thought of a late first round pick before rumors of what his workout would be like got out there. And there were no doubt insane heights but 2024 Faulk was one of the SEC’s most dominant lineman. I wouldn’t have ever classified college Travon Walker in that way.

To be clear I am not saying and have never said that Faulk is a better prospect than Walker.

My thought process with going Thieneman and Ponds and later Taffe

Get Thieneman run a interesting 4-1-2-4 defense

4 d lineman 1 LB 2 S/LB types(Thieneman/Branch) and 4 secondary either a 2 CB 1 NB 1 S(a healthy kerb) or a 2 CB 2 safety setup

Thieneman and Branch would be more closer to the line safety types who could blitz could cover a TE or RB and could be swapped out for a Barnes/Rodrigo when needed.

 Hutch-Alim-Tyliek-Wonnum
          Campbell

   Branch Thieneman
Arnold McCreary/Izien Kerb Reed

You still have in this scenario Rock/Maddox/Ponds/Taffe/Harper/Clark/Whiteside/Dorsey/Jackson/Rakestraw to fill out the secondary on the bench guys like Whiteside/Clark/Jackson/Rakestraw/Dorsey can fight for spots on the team.

Cool challenge, Husker

  1. (17) Keldric Faulk, DE Auburn
  2. (50) Christen Miller, DT/NT Georgia
  3. (4) 118 Jude Bowry OT Boston College
  4. (4) 128 Kaleb Elarms-Orr LB, TCU
  5. (5) 157 Jimmy Rolder LB, Michigan
  6. (5) 188 Michael Taaffe, S Texas
  7. (6) 205 Mason Reiger, DE Wisconsin
  8. (6) 213 Nick Barnett, NT, South Carolina
  9. (7) 222 Will Kacmarek, TE Ohio State

Not super comfortable not getting an OT earlier. But I like Faulk and Miller a lot. I didn’t really want to draft Tafflee, but I didn’t see a better choice there. On hindsight maybe Marlin Klein. Would have liked to double up at tackle but I missed on Markel Bell and Isaiah World later on.

I agree that would be a good haul. I doubt the 2 5th rounders make the roster and would be better used in a package to trade up with one of the earlier picks in the real draft. I’m just not a fan of Taaffe. Like you I am a big fan of Christen Miller and I’m not passing on him for a lesser value of need.

Oh yeah, I don’t think we’ll be taking a player with every pick. Like I expect them to trade the 4ths to move up into the top 100, for instance. I really like Miller. I think he is so strong in his upper body and is versatile enough to play NT or DT with some pass rush upside to boot IMO. Probably not the best NT for doubles but I think he’d fit in here nice. If that board was how it came out, I would not be surprised if they took Anthony Hill Jr or one of Scott/Ponds either. I think Scott could be an amazing nickel, but he is probably just a nickel. Ponds might be able to play outside. Both are very fun to watch.

Vega Ioane fits like a glove

For the record, I hate the options, esp in round 1, I’m not a fan of my pick there, but so many others, I don’t like. Doing it one pick at a time makes it alot worse, but that’s whats real, so I stuck with that. Round one is almost all my do not draft guys, so I’d be begging for a trade down.

1 - Kenyon Saddiq TE (oh boy, really?), don’t like any of them!
2 - D’angelo Ponds CB - easy one.
4- Trey Zuhn OT/C -Poor man’s Fano - short arms and all…most pro ready of the OT’s. Bell is interesting but we have one of them. dang could have got him later.
4 - Keyshawn Ellitot -LB - I have to be consistent, although Boettcher is intriguing. Gosh where are all the Edges.
5 - Nadame Tucker - Edge- sacks please!
5 - Eli Heidenreich - RB/WR/ST A true blue Lion, ST ace at least. Better version of Vaki?
6 - Jaeden Roberts IOL
6- Mason Reiger Edge - no we’re not good.
7 - Luke Altmeyer QB - why not

Oh I totally cheated and looked ahead. Were we not supposed to cheat and look ahead?

That’s why Dan Marino dropped. I get it.

And reefer, right?
