Lions need a new defensive coordinator, too: Here are 6 names to watch

Wilks is a version of Dan Campbell, though it sounds like he’ll be must likely joining AG.

I think it’ll end up being Shepard. I’m actually expecting both coordinators to be internal

Shep to me has the inside track, but Townsend and Wilks also seem intriguing.

I would honestly go Fraley or outside on O… and definitely outside on D…

Grit is a good way to go from 3-5 wins to 10-11 plus. It takes more to get to the grail.
We definitely overachieved given our injuries, but I also think the Bills, Eagles, Chiefs, Ravens, and clearly Commanders pose a different challenge.

The problem with Shep and Montgomery is we bring in no new brain pain or experience.

I would personally go…

Matt Eberflus
Hank Fraley

I was bummed to see Williams move on as I thought he would be a logical candidate. Now DC in New England. Like five seconds later, we lose AG… Wonder if timing would have changed that. I know Sheppard is that leader of men guy. I would have to think they have better options running an entire defense. You can have a leader of men as your HC when you have two excellent coordinators. No time for OJT with this roster. That said Shep may be a super student of the game and is ready.

I would bring in Rams D Line coach Giff Smith. He did wonders with the Rams 1st and 2nd year guys on that D Line to pressure the QB. He has a ton of experience. Before the Rams he was in San Diego and had Bosa and Mack. The aging Mack may have had his best sack season under Smith. I think he would do wonders with the talent we have. He just seems like the perfect fit for DC since we lost both AG and D Line coach. I want to see pressure on the QB and this dude may be the best in the business.

Matt Eberflus is really good D mind . I think we need experience n D an could move Fraley to OC an promote others inside on D an O. I think least experience can be O but D needs high experience.

Now that is a good idea @coyote12! Maybe not as DC but as defensive passing game coordinator? Where do I sign? Dude knows passing concepts and the nfc north. Shit he gave Goff problems.

Lions are doing what they’re preaching so I expect that, too.

DC - Shep
OC- Tanner, Montgomery or Fraley (hopefully he dont join the Hags)

I would just love it if DC snagged Dennis Allen away from Ben-a-dick.

Dennis Allen is the ideal candidate for me… Other than the obvious scheme familiarity, you don’t have to worry about him being poached to be a HC after 2 failed attempts :man_shrugging:

Its no one on those lists. Deal is done.

I bet DC can flip his pal over to Lions. That would be awesome.

When does it get announced?

Eberflus?!?

Rex ryan?

Eberflus is a heck of a DC. His work with the Colts/Cowboys was outstanding.

External for DC too?

The Rams D-Line was supposed to be a weakness this year after losing Donald. This guy deserves alot of credit. He’s also the running game coordinator. Plus, I really would not mind screwing up the Rams a bit. They are a problem.

Eberflus would be interesting dynamic added to Ben Johnson going to the Bears.

Also very familiar with the division - hit thebground running in that way. No learning curve. No time for a learning curve.
