Lions need a new defensive coordinator, too: Here are 6 names to watch

Freep’s Birkett speculates
Jim Leonhard from Denver, db coach and former DC at Wisonsin, has a long history in NFL

Ryan Nielson, Jaguars
Kacy Rodgers Bucs DLine coach

Interesting…

Prior to firing Eberflus the Bears were 4-8 but they only allowed more than 23 points twice. They had allowed a season high of 30 points. After his firing they allowed over 23 in 4 of 5… and 3 times over 30!!!

Fraley staying and keeping some continuity amongst the big guys, and a veteran presence with a chip in his shoulder against Chi-Town would be great on the D…

The issue with the promoting from within (constantly) is eventual you get brain drain. Also if a guy like Shep gets the nod, but Townsend doesn’t, then Townsend builds a relationship with Shep and when/if Shep leaves… 1-2 guys potentially go with.

Dennis Allen and Everflus leaning Eberflus

If you give nod to Scottie, Brunell, Tanner, then you leave 2 out… etc. Fraley clearly is the senior figure on the offense side and at least 2 teams were interested in his as an OC….

With Jerruh promoting internally for their new HC, I suspect Zimmer will stay there. However, my list of preferred outside candidates would be:
Zimmer
Ryan
Martindale

Very Experienced group:
Mike Zimmer: 68
Rex Ryan: 62
Don Martindale: 61
Wink Martindale: 91

My guys said big name. My guys didn’t say media famous name. The people we got are hot big name up and comers in NFL circles. Fans might be like WTF. But NFL people are gonna be like ■■■■■■■ A! Detroit did it again.

The latter is all that matters!

He’s a Todd Bowles guy, obviously, had time with DC in Miami… Makes sense. I’d assume he has the same aggressive, blitz heavy scheme that Bowles does… I’d like that hire.

Seems more like a positional coaching lifer than a mover and shaker future HC type. Hiring him away as new DLine coach would be fine, but to be DC would be underwhelming.

Packers interviewed Rodgers for DL Coach per Rapport
" The Green Bay Packers are interviewing Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers for the team’s open defensive line coach job on Tuesday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network."

So us going after him as DC would be interesting

it’s a complete guess on my part.
