You can’t rush the passer if you can’t stop the run.
Earn the right to rush.
They also like length. That goes to stopping the run, and leverage, IMO.
Juice they would take, if it also stopped the run.

The Saints did, we seem to care less about it. Hutch, Paschal, Wingo, Levi, Alim… none of them inordinately long. In fact some of them are short-armed for the position.
Dan has said as much. You listed Edge, Big End, 3t, 3t, NT in your list. Those interior guys are not necessarily who you hear him talking about when he mentions length. Hutch has length, even if not arms alone. He has an ideal for Edge defenders that looks a lot like what we have today in Hutch and Smith, IMO.
He has mentioned it, yeah, and I think all things being equal we’d prefer it. But our actions don’t necessarily back it up. Maybe Dan prefers it but Brad’s not as particular? I don’t know. Charles Harris had short arms too.
I would argue though that Hutch doesn’t have length, but he’s learned some tricks to make up for it. The power lean is unmistakable, and that spin move means the OT has to stay back, limiting his reach. Also he has the best hand usage in the game for my money, so it’s easier to set an OT up for speed to power. But he’s still only 10th percentile length for the position, and when you factor in his height it’s like 2nd percentile. His length was one of the negatives on his scouting report, pretty much from everyone. And it showed up from time to time in college, though it rarely shows up now.
Which is why Ty Robinson should be in your list. Especially if we want to be able to slide a guy up and down
the DL.
I’m 100% certain they’re on the same page. They’re still going to draft players over profiles in that regard.
I think the power of Hutch’s will is his super power. That’s why I do believe we might be able to overlook some of Rucker’s size concerns. He’s wired the same way.
Oh he’s on my list, just as an iDL more than an edge. And certainly not someone we might need to trade up from 60 for.
Right, I didn’t mean to say they wouldn’t. Just that what they may prefer individually could differ some and they compromise. They’ve both said they don’t always agree but they’re always able to come to a compromise.
We’ll see. There is a world in which he wows at the Senior Bowl the same way Darius Robinson did last year.
I think I like him better at 3T as well but we had another poster mention that they like him at base end if he gets down to 290ish. I can see that as well.
For sure. Legendary drive which is why he has so many tricks in his bag, he works his ass off to perfect them.
He’s also really underrated as a short area athlete. He just looks like he’s moving at a different pace than the guys trying to stop him.
There’s no way he won’t be on our board, though I do wonder about his medicals. Of course that might be one of the reasons why he’s on our board.
And just physical fitness with Hutch. That is always one of the more underrated aspects of success. At least from outsiders.
Yeah I think could be a Cominsky/Levi type, but honestly I might prefer it if he went the other way. Well I’d prefer if he stays where he is actually, but if he decides to go one way or the other, I think he should go up. That first step will devastate iOL and honestly he has some of that Hutch drive too. I know iOL can sort of take advantage of his height and pad level, but maybe not so much with a few more pounds. I also wish his hands were better, which to me is more important outside.
Honestly 5T is almost certainly his best spot. I know a ton of people have comped him to Justin Smith, but there’s a reason for that.
But you’re also right that he’s sure to show out at the Senior Bowl, and if so he could really rise.
I agree. I’ve long said that he’s be the perfect Cam Hayward replacement in Pittsburgh.
But I also think he has a ton of value as a guy that can be starter level at multiple spots.
Personally I think he’s probably going around our 2nd round pick give or take 10-15 spots. Though perhaps his age knocks him down. He’s a fairly unique athlete at 312 or whatever it is that he plays at.
Yeah that he is. Pretty freaky juice. Of course that top heavy build gets him in trouble plenty too

He fits Dan’s style
