I was starting to think same thing

It feels like I’m missing some context here.

The first pick where? Terrion Arnold? One of his mock drafts? What’s going on?

I’m not saying to reach.
Go get your guy as Brad has consistently done.
Brad attacked the CB position by not waiting and reaching but by going up and getting the best CB on his board.
Reaching would have been sitting at #29 and selecting Rake because you needed a CB.
If Holmes uses his first 3 picks to go get 2 starting D-linemen that would be attacking instead of reaching.

Yeah, he posted a mock earlier taking DT Harmon. So pick could be a guy with strong DL ties?

Sure if it lines up that way I’m all for it. But if it doesn’t I’m fine with that too.

And that draft Risdon proposed would be fantastic. And lest anyone forget, the first pick WAS a DL (Harmon), just not an edge.

Oregon or Michigan State ties (where Harmon transferred to Oregon from)?

Oooh, maybe it’s Saban.

I got you.
I don’t know if we attacked a position intentionally or if we attacked our board. I’m not as confident in that as many posters are. Right now, my overall impression is that we can literally do anything in the world we want to do. No position is so desperate and no position so full that they need unique attention. It’s 100% about the draft class to me this year. I don’t know if the team sees it that way, but that’s where I’ve landed.

I mean, that’s a BIG name. lol. I bet the Alabama guys here would love that.

Thanks bud

Bro!

That would be amazing. We’d be the media darling of the 2025 season and dominate the talk during the superbowl. Adding Nick Saban to your team is better than the TE hooking up with Taylor Swift. I mean, the darling darling would still be KC, but we’d up there. Just need one of the players to hook up with a Kardashian or something. LOL

Half the back 4 played under saban. There is a connection

You follow the draft prospects more than I do. What Edge would you be willing to go up and get in the top 50 to pair with Harmon.

I hate to say this, but I think this is a Rooney interview.
Rules require at least one External minority candidate for each Coordinator position.

Larry Foote wouldn’t be extremely high on my list. But we will see I suppose.

LBers coach for bucs and pass game coordinator the pass two years for them (defense)

So actually decent connection with our new dline coach

There are quite a few that fit us both from a physical and mental perspective. Jack Sawyer, Landon Jackson, Mykel Williams, Shermar Stewart, JT Tuimoloau. Any one of those would fit, and a couple might even make it to #60. Sawyer, for all of his exploits, could fall because of a lack of juice. Stuff like that.

I want to be able to add Nic Scourton, Kyle Kennard and Jared Ivey to that list, but they’re less clean.

Scourton is a glove fit physically, but really looked disinterested over the last half of the season. Can’t imagine the FO will like that.

Ivey has flash plays that make him seem like a perfect fit, but when you watch him down to down he takes too many plays off.

Kennard plays hard and has more juice going forward, but he’s right on that cusp of is he strong enough to hold up against the run or not? He’s Crosby-sized (255ish), but does he have Crosby’s power? Most of the other guys his size in this class don’t (Umanmielen, etc…)

We probably won’t know for sure until the combine, but are any of these guys athletic or very twitchy?
It would be nice to have someone else besides Hutch that could actually chase down a QB.
Harmon is very twitchy and I’d be ecstatic if Holmes got a twitchy Edge as well.

Alas, most are not. I’m like you and want some legit athleticism from that side, but so far all this FO has shown us is they prefer power profiles (besides the guys we’ve drafted, there was also the rumored love of Darius Robinson last year, who was similar to the above list). That’s also the way the Saints always preferred their edge rushers - stout first, juice second - so I’m pretty sure it’s just our style.

Of those Stewart probably has the most juice. But he’s 6’6, 290. If he shows up at 275 or so he’s gonna test like Travon Walker and go way before our pick. Scourton has juice too for a guy his size (6’4, 280), but again I’m not sure he’ll meet our grit thresholds. JTT is another with good athleticism ā€œfor his size.ā€

The true flame throwers are probably not stout enough for us. James Pearce is often mocked to us, but he really struggles to hold up in the run game (though he was improved this year). Same with Umanmielen, Ezeiraku, Stewart, etc… Most of those guys would be SAMs for us.

Carter and Green are probably the only two edges with real juice who seem like good run defenders too, but Carter’s going top 5 and Green was kicked off Virginia’s team, so he probably won’t be our type of guy.

Hopefully we can steal a Hendrickson type like the Saints did. Him and Hutch are in the juice + strength category that’s pretty hard to find.
