Lions power rankings show the wide divide on QB Jared Goff

Getting more common for offenses to do that, especially when all they need is a FG…it is best done when you have a super-QB.
Even Buffalo gave up a playoff game just like that last year…even with their defense and coaching staff.

Still - We should have been able to defend for that long…for…sure

People have the need to simplify and find the smoking gun. Realistically it’s 1k things that compound together but as the QB is the most involved player, it’s the easiest object in the room to point at besides the coach. Always pointing to the QB is a simple answer and often a simple analysis. It’s what my 90 year old grandma would point to and she doesn’t watch football.

Someone shared an analysis at the end of last year that Goff does have quite a few game winning drives in his 6+ years of playing. I think his percentage of winning the game winning drives was better than Stafford, however his total wins doing it was much lower over the same number of years. Mostly because the rams were blowing out teams compared to the lions always in close games at the end.

The point being that Goff can and has won with the game on the line. He just hasn’t had to as much because he rarely is playing from behind. Those opportunities appear to be coming with the Lions…

We had a chance against 3 top teams this year and came away with 3 loses. Imo Goff has had opportunities to stop all the talk but has come up short in them times.

That’s why I said this game is important do we win or is it another close but no cigar.

Everyone would rather have Allen but he makes mistakes too. He threw a pic to Not Porn and almost another. I watched their game against the Phins and he threw a bad pick, fumbled in the red zone and badly missed some receivers to lose the game. Against the Vikes his int was a killer. There aren’t perfect QBs (except Brady)

To me it seems like Goff will have a great game…(Without looking it up I think it was the third best game a QB had against the Bills top five defense all year) But then gets excoriated here for any mistakes

Without a lot of discussion about Williams fumbling in the red zone, Swift dropping a TD pass, missing an easy FG, taking a terrible roughing the passer penalty leading to a Bills TD. That’s an 18-21 point swing there and if the team plays better we win. If the defense doesn’t give up a FG drive in .20 we go to overtime

The hyper criticism on Goff seems way myopic. And this concept a rookie QB could play better and overcome team mistakes and this defense is seems fantastical

And I think that even Goff detractors agree that he’s a good-to-very-good QB when the pocket is clean, and receivers get open.

But with any pressure at all, he starts to miss throws, not see open guys, and make turnovers. Goff has 7 Pix and 5 Fumbles in just 10 games, 8 of which happened after half-time. He’s just not clutch.
