My $7 million number was merely a “hypothetical” number for the sake of conversation.
As I just posted… I have read that McDaniel’s salary for his extension (2026-2028) was increased into the top tier of HC salaries… so it could be north of $10-12 million… but the number hasn’t been made public.
To me the Falcons gig is the best fit for him as a HC. Connections there. The Browns? Might have to inherit Schwartz and no QB. The Titans are interesting but a bit of a rebuild without a lot of tools to do that. Some pieces. The Ravens feel like an odd fit but could work.
I feel like the Falcons and Ravens are the best fit for him but are they interested in him? The Falcons interviewed John H. and that feels like a great fit to me. They need maturity there and John brings that. The Ravens is a mystery to me. I can see a draw to Mike by the Ravens so maybe?
My only issue with McDaniels is not from a schematic or culture fit—it’s from a stability standpoint. Let’s say McDaniels gets the OC job here, and the Lions jump off the page offensively. All of a sudden teams are going to come calling for him. Maybe not next year given the volume of opening this year, but certainly in a couple years. Not sure I’d be a fan of looking for a new OC in just two years.
It could, but I don’t see where the OC position represents a promotion for someone vs where the position represents a demotion or lateral would be on shorter time schedule. I’m talking two vs three or four years.
I don’t think it will matter. I can’t see McDaniel taking the job, but we’ll see.
He is without a doubt the best fit for the job!! Watching Shanahan pick apart the eagles defense knowing that McDaniel comes from the same tree gets me very excited!! This would be a home run even if it’s for 2 years!!
