There’s going to be at least 3 QBs cut at the end of the preseason that would be solid/serviceable back ups imo
Would the Vikings keep 3 on the active roster? I don’t think so. They have Brosmer who would like get through to the practice squad. Wentz seems like a likely cut to me.
Does Minshew stay with the Cardinals and they carry 3 QBs? Feels like it makes sense for Slovis to go to the PS and Beck is the backup.
Is Mason Rudolph worth keeping around when the Steelers have both Will Howard and Drew Allar who are likely staying…
Then there’s Anthony Richardson and Will Levis who no longer make sense with their current franchises.

We never seem to be interested in any of those though.
The one exception was the year we signed Sudfeld at the end of camp.

I think it’s because fans have no idea what is going on for backup quarterbacks.
The little bit of information we do have is basically:
- Have I heard of this guy?
- Has he had an opportunity to play and looked good in that small sample size?
Real pro scouting guys and coaches have a ton more information on how these guys look in practice, contribute in the QB room, etc.
I think that information asymmetry is why there’s always misalignment between fans and the backup QB moves made by teams. I bet the fans are largely wrong clamoring for names.

Wouldn’t mind trading a late round pick for Aidan O’Connell. 3rd string QB currently on the Raiders behind Mendoza and Kirk, but he has started 17 games in his career. 3,800 passing yards with 20 TD and 11 INT on a terrible Raiders team. He has some Goff to his game.

Watch his Presser today. I really like his attitude and demeanor.
I loved his “jump on a moving train” imagery.
Outside of Bridgewater, the Lions hadn’t had a backup QB with as much starting experience. You’d have to go back to Shaun Hill to find one.

Kyle Allen had some starting experience.
Allen was the best backup QB the Lions have had since Hill (Teddy was hot garbage his whole time here) and I think they should’ve tried harder to keep Allen.

isn’t that completely dumb asf ??? When you draft a QB to be your #1, there are no 100% chances he’s going to be healthy and last forever either, so this is why -we have A back-up QB ,to fill in --until the starter can get back on his feet. It’s dumb not to get a fairly able #2 -Dobbs sure as hell isn’t it, and WHY our staff facks around by not just getting a solid #2 QB, but they can have the money to buy camp-fill bums, but not put the money for a #2 Back first , baffles the shit out of me.
