Lions sign S Christian Izien

From the Bucs. The only thing I know of him is I remember saying to my buddy while watching him play (I think vs SF) was ‘who is this guy? He looks like a firecracker’

Yes I said firecracker (old)

Never heard of him. But I see he has 15 career starts and 3 interceptions in his career. Still only 25 years old

I have just been looking at him. Christian won the starting nickle spot as a rookie in 2023. Played a good bit in 2024 but played mostly special teams in 2025. Turns 26 in June.

Feels like a strong role player with upside. Can play nickle, strong safety and special teams. Rutgers kid. Undrafted in 2023. I like it.

Whether we like it or not these are the types of players we will be picking up to fill out the roster.

I have been waiting for these to happen.

BH is now going to do his best to fill the glaring roster holes on the defense so he can stay with best available mind set.

I think it is all window dressing. I am not sure how the Lions do not go either OT or DE with that first pick.

Was just reading about him. Sounds like a possible Nickel replacement for Amik

GREAT signing. I wanted him in his draft year and was telling @CuriousHusker he was one of my favorite guys left. This is fantastic, people will fall for him like they did Amik (before the end).

I like it.

This is how you win free agency. Young guys with upside on reasonable deals.

You have a far better chance of them playing up to their contracts, and there’s real possibility that they could meaningfully outplay their deals.

With the premier free agents, there’s basically no possible way for them to overperform. You just have to hope that they don’t underperform. If you look at this FA class for the Raiders in a few years, I bet the odds are that the evaluation will be that, as a whole, it didn’t live up to its cost.

I’m 100% on board with largely spending big money only on guys who’ve already performed for the team.

To achieve average results you need average signings. Between Petzing, Mays, Borom and this we are well on the way.

Sounds like a good depth signing. Has starting experience and is a STer at worst.

We will have to trust the Lions pro scouting guys. They have a solid track record and have earned their pay.

But I thought Rake was the nickel?  :joy:

There’s the veteran safety I was hoping for!

And I agreed.

It’s @Thats2’s world and we’re just living in it.

Excellent to hear this, i dont know anything about him but always mad respect when UDFA climb the ladder and make a career.

Back to poaching the Bucs DBs…. CD3 , Merriweather now this guy. I like it.

I wanted a low key safety signing , Tony Jefferson… but Brad is true to form snatching up the young up n coming dudes.

And he can play NB too?

Perfect.

We just need 2-3 new topics from Wolfcub complaining about all the posts about this signing.
