Yeah they dimished his role. Hes not going to be a part of the offense like he used to be. They phased him out. So he wanted out. This isnt hard to understand. Whats wrong with you people? “NO NO NO DMO WANTED OUT WAH WAH !”
You all say you liked him but all i see is hate. But like he was a great player for us.
Weird. Again i never seen a fan base so happy to lose one of their most productive players.
And if you are all complaining about me continuing sticking up for him then stop replying to me.
I didn’t complain about you defending him, I pointed out why Monty saying he didn’t want out didn’t mean he didn’t want out. It was posturing.
I DO think you see enemies where there are none. I also don’t know why you can’t see how people would be frustrated with him for wanting out. We’re Lions fans first, and the way he went about it - especially at the end of the year - felt very petulant. Now I don’t necessarily agree with them either, but I see their side of it, just like I see the side of the people who loved Monty the player and don’t want to say goodbye.
MY view has always been that it’s a business, which we should all know from rooting for an NFL team for so long, and this was good business. Yes, business can be cruel, that’s why you have the term “it’s just business,” but that doesn’t mean you stop operating the business.
You are assuming that the Lions feel he’s as good as you do. Love him or not, he’s replaceable fairly easily. Even though some around here get emotionally attached and believe he’s something special. I loved him but a backup RB isn’t worth the hassle.
Not to mention they got a haul for him. Call me crazy but with the compensation I’m not sad or disappointed at all. We didn’t trade our top 5 offensive weapons so I’m thrilled.
I would consider that a win. Less strain on his body, but explosive on 4th downs. And continue with the ST flashiness.
I looked it up for last year - groin, ankle and thumb in that order. Two weeks for the ankle so… maybe it’s all a fluke thing. Like with Hutchinson. I sure hope so for everyone’s sake, but mainly his.
My 2 million number was based on total savings… 3.5 in cap relief minus just over 1.5 million salary for Juice… I stated this several times… They saved $2 million (less than 1%) in 2026 cap space with this trade… Thanks for backing me up
It’s ignorant to think that Juice’s cap charge should have any bearing on Monty’s cap charge. He’s a player we wanted and if we didn’t have him on the roster, we’d have another player that would be getting paid between $885K and $1.7M. We choose to have him fill one of those slots.
By trading DMo, they saved $6M in cash, so they saved $6M against the cap (2%), $3.5M in 2026 and $2.5M in 2027. It’s actually pretty simple and if you can’t understand these simple computations, you should probably avoid trying to discuss them with others, it makes you look ignorant.
I understand completely… What I don’t understand is how you can say they saved 2% (6 million) against the cap when it’s split over 2 years. It’s dishonest, and I know you’re smart enough for it not to be a mistake. Like you said, they saved 3.5 million in 2026, where the cap is just over 300 million, barely 1%. And it’s not ignorant to include new contracts from this trade in the overall cap adjustment… Inconvenient maybe, but it’s a piece of the pie and needs to be accounted for.
Bottom line, they didn’t trade him bc of money, which was my entire point. They traded a disgruntled player who wanted more playing time and security… The team will fill his role with someone cheaper no doubt, but the overall cap hit of 2026 will be about the same whether Monty was on the roster or not.
I’m not sure why you don’t think the cap savings from 2027 is relevant? Whether we traded Montgomery or not, we were always going to do a couple simple restructures (Goff, Penei, ARSB, etc) to free up 2026 cap space and defer the cap charges to future seasons. The fact that the Lions freed up $3.5M in cap space in 2026 has no bearing on what they are going to spend in UFA or on extensions, none. They were always prepared to do a couple simple restructures to free up cap space this year and allocate cap dollars to future yeas. If this was the Eagles or the Browns or Saints, then yes it MIGHT be an issue. We saved 2%, if you’re not tight against the cap, it’s irrelevant which year it occurs.
You’re wrong. His contract is not guaranteed. We could cut him in April and not owe him a dime. It’s the same as signing camp fodder. If he makes the team, he’s an asset on his own merits.
I didn’t say the savings in 2027 isn’t relevant, I said you were combining the savings for both 26 AND 27 to get to a 2% number that doesn’t exist… Saved 3.5 in 2026 of a possible 301, that’s 1.16%
Your 2% savings number is BS, they can’t spend next year’s money this year… To be honest you’d have to say they saved 6 million (3.5 in 2026 and 2.5 in 27, which are your numbers) against over 600 million total cap for both years… Again, 1%… Basic math
2027’s number wouldn’t have mattered nearly as much bc there were much more savings to be had if he was cut or traded after the 2026 season… Which is what I believe the team would have done if he wasn’t disgruntled and wanted out this year.
