Lions trade David Montgomery to the Texans

That would make sense

I don’t mind picking up Scruggs, just to clarify.

But counting on him to now develop into a future starter seems like a bad idea.

Hate this as a Monty fan. Make no mistake, he will be missed.

But the bottom line here is $$$.

The Lions are looking at their spreadsheets and trying to figure out how they are going to afford a free agent and/or sign their own guys.

Monty’s money is just the most obvious place to cut and backfill with a draft pick.

We’ll see who they sign, if it’s a big name then we’ll know why Monty was put on the block pre-free agency.

Competition at least and maybe we can develop him.

We’ll miss Monty so my heart hurts a bit, but he’s a 29 year old back with miles. This is a solid trade for Brad.

Oh, and clearly Monty wanted out.

We paid depth price for him. Anything we get beyond that is gravy.

Not a bad haul for a player who reportedly didn’t want to be in detroit anymore.

Seems like just a throw in.

The trade is DMONT for a late 4th and we squeezed them for a little extra.

They’re clearly trying to rebuild their OL too, so it’s worth a shot.

For the 2nd year in a row.

They go about it the strangest way of any team in the league. And it’s not working. Really strange when you consider the stage of development their QB is in

You do realize that we have the ability to bring in another back right?

Definitely seems like we got fair compensation for him

If Texans OL is bad, Monty won’t make a big difference on their team anyway

I would have been satisfied if we got only the 4th rounder. So yes, the extra dart throws are just gravy…I agree with you.

That’s a strange statement considering we haven’t had the draft or FA yet.

Honestly it sucks to lose DMO but very much I like this trade alot, 4th 7th and Scruggs is a good haul

That’s not true, the bottom line is Monty wanted to be a more involved piece of an offense and the Lions did right by him (like they always do with the player) and granted a trade.

Made no sense to me. How do you get a 4th round pick, a 7th round and and ANY player and call it “5th Round Value”

You can bring in a cheap labor back but who’s to say this guy will be as intelligent as D-Moe? His mistake could cost Goof to end his season.

Happy with the compensation… We now have 3 backup guard/centers (GG, McLaughlin, and Juice) who could all start in a pinch… Lots of competition
