Lions trade David Montgomery to the Texans

Yes. It wasn’t just about saving money.

Monty wasn’t happy. Don’t really want unhappy players in the locker room killing the vib.

Hope it works out for him and for us because I like him as a player and person.

Well it didn’t work last year, I suppose this year is TBD.

Great trade. I’m stunned they got that much for him. It also lets me dream about getting a better back (Allgeier) in FA for a week.

Looks to me like Fox will be playing linebacker, as well as backup running back this year

Holy shit!!!

P.s. thank God for position versatility

Oh, even better. We want as many 2027 picks as possible.

I am too. Honestly can’t believe it for an older RB. I was thinking a single 5th would probably do it.

Exactly. You’re with us or against us. There’s no middle ground. Fantastic trade.

The extra 4th rounder makes me feel a little bit better about not having a 3rd rounder in this draft.

BTW, have we found out if we get an extra comp pick yet?

Who’s to say he won’t, I was terribly disappointed when Jamaal Williams left….then we replaced him with Monty

I love allegier but im not sure if he’ll be cheaper than Montgomery.

I don’t mind picking up Scruggs, just to clarify.

But counting on him to now develop into a future starter seems like a bad idea.

I see him more as a GG replacement. Plays guard, too. Can be the backup at guard and center and is still on a rookie deal.

Tankathon shoes us getting a 5th round comp pick.

Also, just to piss some people off, we could’ve had in this draft:

1st rounder
2nd rounder
3rd rounder
3rd rounder (compensatory)
4th rounder
4th rounder (Houston)
5th rounder
5th rounder (compensatory)
6th rounder (Cleveland)
6th rounder (Jacksonville)
7th rounder (Cleveland)

Yeah after his rookie year, everyone thought he had a real future. Had an injury-riddled second year and was in and out of the lineup, but last year was bad and he only started one game, despite playing in all 17. Tough guy to figure out.

If Brad doesn’t get cute with the extra 4th and 5th those could be big for us. He has shown that he can find good players in those rounds.

Except the numbers don’t support that:

Recent Touches and Performance (2023-2025)

  • 2025 (Lions): 182 total touches (158 carries, 24 receptions) for 908 scrimmage yards and 8 touchdowns.
  • 2024 (Lions): 221 total touches (185 carries, 36 receptions) for 1,116 scrimmage yards and 12 touchdowns.
  • 2023 (Lions): 219 carries for 1,015 yards and 13 touchdowns (first season in Detroit).

He can’t really ask for more than that sharing a backfield with a top 3 back.

But if you look at his contract, you start to see why the Lions decided to move him.

I’m getting the feeling they had Monty’s contract red circled and have for a while.

God bless Monty but that’s a lot for him and I’ll take it

My guess is we had an offer of a better 5th from someone so we squeezed a 7th and a former 2nd pick at Oline.

Really it’s a win for the Lions and Monty. Maybe he will come back and celebrate at our SB parade next year.

Sad to see Monty go. He was a beast
