Not the worst option… I’m telling you, a lot of what Tate struggles with will get mitigated with him playing center. GG started there not bc of Tate, but bc of Goff’s comfort with Graham (according to Risdon)

It is if BH wants to thinks he’s better than everyone else and the guard plan is both Mahogany and Frazier being our starters

Guards are easier to find than Centers and there’s quite a few iOL prospects in this draft as well.
That probably is going to be the plan half the teams in the league need a center. Good ones won’t hit the market and there will be a lot of competition in FA driving up the price for 2nd & 3rd tier guys. I don’t see the Lions committing big dollars to any FA’s anyway. That money is going to Gibbs and Campbell.
I’m not so sure either of them gets extended this offseason… It doesn’t change the cap equation at all in 2026 and both aren’t premium positions. They control both for 2-3 more years if they want… I think it’ll highly depend on their asking price.

They are definitely getting extended sooner rather than later. Holmes mentioned Gibbs at the combine and according to Birkett this is the plan. I definitely agree with your point but I guess the Lions think they can get a deal by doing it early.
To hit on your post about the IOL I was just going to comment on. Don’t sleep on Frazier starting at guard.

If we go to the draft without signing an IOL starter this line won’t cut it. I’ve said it in other threads it would be a complete joke from a decision standpoint. You don’t think your team is a contender if you are cool with our current interior + another rookie.
I really like Frazier, I think he’s definitely in the mix at guard… Today the line would be
Sewell/Mahogany/Rat/Frazier/Draft Pick or FA
It’s not awful, but definitely some projection

I still remember having basically two rookie OL start last season opener and trying to do silent. Count at Lamb-breed field… Ugly.

I like Frazier a lot too. More than Mahogany honestly. But that doesn’t mean you should be inking them in as starters. Would be lucky if one turned out to be good.
That decision would be, I’m BH and I’m smarter than everyone else, type a move. It would be worse than what he did in 2025 which makes it 10x as bad.

I agree, adding another guard in the draft would make me more comfortable… Beau Stephens, Jeremiah Wright, or Chase Bisontis in the mid to late rounds would all alleviate some concerns about either Mahogs or Frazier starting as I believe any of them could be average guards
The ONLY way it’s ok to go into the draft without signing a starting IOL is getting such a good tackle we don’t need to draft one. And that’s not happening.
I mean we are siting on 1 starter and a bunch of guys battling to start who can’t be called anything but average at best at this point. Adding zero slam dunk starters going into the draft? I can’t think of a more incompetent decision under the complete set of circumstances over the last year +
