I definitely wouldn’t mind if we somehow landed either tackle or Johnson in the first round.
Grant might be there the other two wont. Unless lions trade up
Here is to hoping, Grant seems like a good fit
The combine is going to be huge for Grant I think.
If he tests well, he could be a huge riser.
Grant seems more like another nose tackle. We have Reader and Bromart…who I know we need more out of. But we need a 3 tech pass rusher more than another 340 pound nose IMO. Apparently was up 360 lbs at times at Michigan. Looks like a part time nfl player unless he gets serious about fitness and conditioning.
Grant could be readers replacement. With McNeil going to be out for the year dt is important just like de and cb. I would also love to add more LB help
Agreed. He looks dominant at times. I need to watch more film on him. But the weight issues always concern me, especially in round 1.
What say you @Thats2 @CuriousHusker on Grant?
Yeah. Combine is going to be important for him. I actually not loving anyone in this draft. I hope holmes trades down or trades it away. I do like osu de boys though, but i think their both a reach at 28
Now that’s the type of thinking the Lions need and Brad Holmes will surely consider.
We all remember Mayhew, went into the 2014 draft knowing that Suh, Fairley, and CJ Mosley were all going to be unrestricted FAs after the season and Donald was there for the taking. Holmes won’t make that same mistake.
Yeah. Lions big problem vs Washington was they couldn’t stop the run. I think they had 180 plus. We knew going into the game lions would get eating by the passing game, but lions strength was against run, till McNeil got hurt
The QB zone read with mobile qbs has killed us for years. Wash just copied Buffalo IMO. We had no answer.
It’s why I think the Eagles would be tough for us too. Same with the Ravens.
Hopefully Shep is studying this nonstop this offseason.
Our run defense had been absolutely lockdown for over a year until Hutch got hurt. Then, it was still just pretty good until McNeill got hurt.
I bet we see our run defense improve dramatically when we get those guys healthy.
Yes but both their rb average over 5 yards a carry. You cant stop the run its pretty much over
Right that was my point. We stop the run extremely well with pocket passers under center…the gun zone read and RPO’s give us fits.
We look like a defense that practices against Jared Goff every day ![]()
Easy guy to like and a good fit physically. I’ll be somewhat surprised if he’s there for us, but he didn’t take the leap many hoped he would this year, so at least his stock stayed about the same. Of course his calling card was always his athleticism for his size, so the combine could vault him up the boards despite his tape.
I have no idea if he’ll be our type mentality-wise, but otherwise I expect him to be in the bucket of guys we might take.
Alfred Collins is pretty comfortably the best run-stopping DT in the class imo. And he offers some upside as a pass-rusher cause he does it with a Chris Jones frame (6’5, 315/320). This is no nose tackle.
Right now though he’s all upside as a pass-rusher. Reminds me a little of Keeanu Benton a couple of years ago in that respect. Great run-stopper, poor pass-rusher, but he has the traits to be better.
Do you see pass rushing potential though?
Yeah his ceiling is very high. It’s always a question about the odds of them hitting it. First rounders have better odds than 2nd rounders generally speaking.
But he didn’t hit it this past year as many were hoping. He might be going top 5 if he did.
Big Mac is the 3T he just sign a big contract , they need someone that can fill in then take over for Reader. And Grant can rush the passer also.
