Michigan football projected to have four 1st-rounders among nine invitees to Combine

I like him too.

What the Eagles proved to everyone a few days ago is that you don’t just need a good starting DL. Having great depth in that room is a cheat code against good offenses.

I definitely don’t think we should stay away from a certain type of DL just because of the ā€œpositional needā€ technicality.

I agree that’s one reason I really like Harmon, we actually need 2 guys someone to replace reader but you also need a replacement for Levi . Both types are definitely in play, Grant might be rated highest but there several guys that work.

Grant
Nolan
Harmon
Collins
Williams

I will be ok with any of these guys at 28
But then there is DEs there a few of them also differant types.

Exactly… Plus Alim may not play until Nov/Dec.

We have had about 15 threads on defensive end trades but DT is a bigger need IMO.

I agree 100%

You really want a good 3man rotation for the big guys

Rotating DLs isn’t unique to the Eagles, teams have been doing that for years. But you have to stay healthy to be able to pull it off. It also helps immensely if your opponent is one-dimensional. I would have loved to see how they stacked up against us and our running game. They didn’t even have to think about the Chiefs running the ball.

But they had all of the same guys on the DL last year and they stunk. In fact maybe they had more talent since Reddick was still around.

One reason I like Grant thou is because with his athletic ability he is more then just a NT. Big Mac was consider NT when he come in with his size and run stuffing ability. I think Grant and Collins and even Williams maybe Phillips also. Are this type.

Yep, that’s one of the reasons he fits us. I just worry that he hasn’t improved as much at the football-y aspects of the position. He still hasn’t developed a pass-rush plan and his hand usage is below average. His juice lets him move quickly down the line and blow up plays most guys his size couldn’t, but his knowledge of leverage, angles is lacking. He still plays with his pad level too high.

Coming into they year you were hoping to see a leap in fundamentals. It’s a pretty common development path to be all athlete at first then slowly fine-tune your game throughout college. But that just didn’t happen. In fact you could argue the issue with his pad level was a little worse.

There’s also multiple reports of him tipping the scales at 360 at times this year. It’s hard not to start to question his work ethic when you combine that with the lack of fundamental improvement. I haven’t heard anything negative about it, it’s just some questions have been raised (which is why he’s fallilng on mock drafts). But if that stuff is true it’s possible Brad isn’t interested.

The upside is sky high so I’m still interested for sure. It’s just he’ll have to answer some questions to FOs and as outsiders, we’ll never know those answers. Certainly I expect he’ll show up in excellent shape to the combine and really crush the testing there. Honestly it’s the least he can do. If he doesn’t, THEN we’ve got problems.

Harmon might not quite be on their level as a run-stopper but he’s very good, and on the plus side offers more as a pass-rusher. Could easily play 1T if we go that route.

Also here’s an early shot I’m calling: Mason Graham is gonna fall.

Fall or fall all the way to 28 ?

I was going to post that same thought earlier, but figured it would be met with too much animosity.

It would not surprise me at all.

Well once a fall starts you never know, but I’d be very surprised if he fell to 28. Probably into the teens. But you’re starting to hear whispers about it, and he doesn’t have a traditionally prototype DT frame for a guy who goes high. He’s also on the ground too often on tape and really takes the cheese on misdirections. Not the best bull rusher either, and a lot of teams like DTs who can collapse the pocket. So there are some things.

He feels just like the sort of prospect the NFL will overthink.

Pass on Will Johnson all day every day in round one-not due to talent either. Sprint to the podium if Grant is available when on the clock.

Due to what, then?

Can’t see Graham dropping beyond 22.

Ulysses?

Oh, Kenneth. I think he’s a great fit. I have no idea whether or not he’ll be able to unlock all of that athleticism and be a rare pass rushing force from the nose. But even if he’s more run of the mill in that capacity I do think his athleticism and ranginess adds enough value beyond your typical gap stuffing fatty to where I’m comfortable with him at 28.

That was Anna Nicole Smith’s nickname for her hubby.

SEE: Washington Commanders @ Detroit Lions. People can say I’m nitpicking but not running Gibbs more - and Montgomery despite the injury - was flat out egregious.

Sorry didn’t mean to derail a great thread. Just reading it got me going.

So this guy is what I want. What little I watched of UM football his motor jumps off the TV. I might suggest if it gets into the 18-20 range the Lions might be able to get a package deal to move up and grab him. I do not see him falling to 28 but the draft is a funny place. And weird things happen.

I do think there will be some really good DE and ID linemen available to the Lions in this draft. This draft is super thin at QB which tends to make things even more unpredictable on how it will all fall out. It feels like the QB-Wr positions are weak on the top end so this will make things very interesting.

Expect Holmes to draft a Qb…LOL
