Bill did win a playoff game though in Cleveland without Parcells or Brady. Parcells never won a single playoff game without Bill. But, I agree it’s hard to know for sure, because Parcells kept leaving teams so quickly. Must have been frustrating for those fan bases that he kept leaving for new teams.
This is true, and also…didn’t parcels Mentor BB?
That was my impression.
Parcells didn’t do as well with the Cowboys, for some reason. I think BB was a ST assistant or something like that when he first came on board w/BP?
Not sure.
Truth is usually somewhere in the middle.
Also consider → acquisition of talent also includes coaching staff…and Parcells put BB on his staff.
I actually think his 2003 season with the Cowboys was one of his better coaching jobs. It didn’t end with a trophy, but he took that team to the playoffs with a 10-6 record with Quincy Carter as his starting QB.
Parcells had a tough time finding a QB in Dallas. He nurtured Romo that final season, but retired right after. Dallas wasn’t his best coaching success story, but boy was that Parcells touch still there.
Yea I was more referring to him leaving the Jets so quickly after turning them around.
They kinda came up together in the Giants system and then Parcells got promoted to HC. I’m sure that was always a bit of a power struggle. They both joined the Giants in 1979. They went from equals to Parcells having power over him in a head coach to DC relationship. 2 great football minds that’s for sure!
Would hate to lose either, but I’d hate losing one over the other more. I think Duce would understand it’s protecting the team and not a slight. Not like the mantle of expected leadership would move away from him at all, nor the ears of the team based on a stinking title.
Parcells took a gamble on him. Belechick coached special teams and Parcells moved him to defense and defensive coordinator. It was not a popular move with Lawrence Taylor and the rest of those defensive players, but Parcells stuck with that.
Parcells and Belichick are two great coaches. They share a coaching philosophy, but they are also very different people. I think they are both legends in their own way and on their own merits.
Shula was amazing. I don’t know if he’d want to stick around for 33 years dealing with today’s rules, free agency, the salary cap and all the practice limitations. Can you imagine the salary he would command today?
I LOVE this…and that is what I’ve wanted here.
While we probably have very different ideas of what “better coach” is, I know what you mean.
I See a really smart, creative brain AND a super-heart-centered inspirational leader.
These ar different forms of intelligence. Winning football requires both.
I think they are both VERY good coaches in VERY different ways.
I love that Dan is who he is, and that he’s at where he’s at in the hierarchy of power. I’d love to see him always have intelligent X’n’O guys → I’ve felt that from the beginning.
I wouldn’t trade Dan for any HC
I would always want “smart guys” under him.
…Dan is GENIUS at what he does, and ppl under estimate and under value that.
Man, if it were up to me, we’d have 3 Asst HC’s, Duece, Fraley, and Johnson.
I’m 100% positive that Campbell, Duece, Fraley, and Johnson get together during the week and put their heads together.
Ben does a masterful job of arrangement.
One of the 4 (probably not Campbell) needs to be designated “Clock Manager”, though.
“What he’s able to do with [Goff] this offense” is how I heard it. But I’m biased. Because I’ve said from game one that BJ has been schemjg this offense to the top of the ranks while people were giving all of the credit to Goff.
