Not really due to how many teams are still in it, or think they are still in it. I think the weekend will get very active
I think with not many sellers its going to be pretty slow this year
I think the big buyers are all waiting on Skubal first.

That should raise his value.
Skubal has proven his value, and I would hate to see him traded IF I thought there was a decent chance of him resigning with us. But I have very limited belief that he will sign with us, I am hoping we can get a haul that will keep us competitive going forward.
But the organization cannot see him walk away with zero return. So I don’t have to like the move to understand that it is probably the right one to make.

If they can’t get Mason Miller, this might be an option with 3-4 years of team control left.

I’ve been out of the baseball game too long. Shouldn’t Skubal have resigned by now? It seems like his trade value is as a WS rental right now? Am I missing something
Boras is his agent, so he was never signing before hitting the open market.
Even as a rental, he is so much better than the usual options available at the deadline that he could command a significant return.

Just found out that if the Tigers don’t shed about 2M to get under the luxury threshold the compensatory pick if they were to keep Skubal through the end of the year goes from probably pick 28isj to after the 4th round.

And that brings us to another element of cutting Rogers, who makes $3 million this season and has just under $1 million of his salary yet to be paid out. It’s a potential salary dumping in case the Tigers keep Skubal through the deadline, helping them get under the luxury tax. They are reportedly between $1-to-2 million over the tax.
If Rogers gets claimed by another team or gets traded, that would help the Tigers get closer to ducking the tax. They need to be under it to get a compensatory pick after the first round of the 2027 MLB Draft if they keep Skubal through the trade deadline but lose him in free agency after he declines the qualifying offer. If they don’t get under tax, the comp pick would move to after the fourth round.
I don’t think a lot of the beat writers do a good enough job with that granular stuff. Susan Slusser who is generally speaking a pretty good Giants beat reporter has been implying that a qualifying offer was a possible strategy with Arraez. But it will be a late fourth. She seems to be stuck on the old compensatory pick rules.

I’d even do what the A’s did last year to get De Vries. It wasn’t Mason Miller for De Vries straight up. The A’s included someone else in that deal along with Miller to get De Vries.
I’d include something else with Skubal to get De Paula.
Imagine you are contending for the WS and have an opportunity to land Skubal and then know if you fall short to a rival you will now have to face a two time CY Young at some point to win it all. Seems like a lot of motivation should be there.
