Scariest thing for me is the advanced data crunching entity (AI is the only word I know for it) misinterpreting something as an incoming nuke and the humans in the bunker relying blindly on that analysis in the 15 mins or so that we have to avoid the end of the world.
Heck, could be happening as I type this…we’ll know in a few minutes
Just had a weird thought. What if AI came up with its own language that humans couldn’t understand and couldn’t crack even with the most advanced supercomputers trying to break it?
I should get paid to just come up with movie premises. Let someone else do all the hard work of writing them. Yeah, you get on that people. Where’s my check?
I don’t want to start the whole conversation over, but movies are not just pumped out. Depending on the standing of a writer, they may have to come up with a completed script. Or, if they’re established, they can just pitch a premise and start the ball rolling. But there are millions and millions of dollars invested in these things, and usually a star actor or actors have to be attached before it gets greenlighted. So much hinges on the bankability of actors, because if it’s a flop on opening weekend, it’s doomed.
How you do convince an audience to pay to see a simulated AI movie star?
That’s a old model… There used to be dozens of blockbusters a year, now we’re lucky to get one or two. Look at the top grossing movies from 2025… Of the 4 that cleared a billion globally, 2 were fully animated movies with no humans (NE Zha 2, Zootopia 2) the third is Lilo and stitch, based on a fully animated movie… And the 4th was Avatar where 90% of the movie is completely computer generated. If you think people are going to see that bc of Sam Worthington, well I’d disagree. There are SO many movies pumped out from every streaming service that being attached to a great actor is less and less important. In fact, I used to see movies bc actors were in them as you’re alluding to bc I knew they’d be good (Dicaprio, Denzel, Damon) they absolutely have equity built up… But they’re a dying breed. If you think people can’t resonate with digital characters, I’d encourage you to talk to gamers. So many are SUPER invested in characters and storylines that they’ll follow a franchise for decades. Many times, these games turn into highly successful movies and shows bc of that fan base.
These are fair points. And maybe I sound like my grandparents who insisted The Beatles were just a fad and “real music” would return and they’d be forgotten.
I think you’re just not accounting for the fact that as much as those examples have weight, people want to see real humans telling real human stories. And there will be a backlash eventually. Young dudes invested in video game characters and not seeking out real human companionship? Just not sustainable, IMO.
You think I’m being shortsighted, I think you are. But we can agree to disagree.
When people just keep repeating unfulfilling (meaning not actually meeting real needs) based on dopaminergic neural circuits, the end is nigh. Always doing the easy thing is a recipe for disaster. Doing the hard things is a recipe for success.
I’m not saying it’s my preference, I’m saying I see younger people not care about the same things I or you care about. I know you know young adults today generally are more comfortable with less social interaction… Doom scrolling, watching YouTube, playing video games, etc. It’s just the natural progression in this country. And yes, I often times feel old bc I see it and say “THAT’S NOT REAL LIFE” until I’m blue in the face. But I have an 18 year old and she’s telling/showing me that that’s not how the next generation looks at it. Great analogy with the music, I’ve never understood soulless pop music topping the charts, but it’s what the masses want, especially the youth I don’t need to understand it, just accept it.
I’d say the best video game narratives are heavily invested in the humanity behind the creation. In my two favorites, Witcher III and RDR2, the human writing and acting are so apparent and so so crucial to the product.
Red Dead is all time… God of war… Halo… The Last of us… All great. And yes, some are based heavily on the human experience, which is what Ai is based on as well, replicating what is/was
