AI needs one blockbuster to break the ice then it’s game on. People will for the most part accept the technology. Frankly I can see movie theaters going the way of the dinosaur in the next 10 years. I used to go about 6 times per year. Now I find myself going more than a year without hitting a theater.
Endgame? It was a great movie.

$2.8 billion in worldwide sales.
I harken back to Jeff Goldbloom’s character in Jurassic Park who said (loosely quoted) Scientists were so determined to see if they “could,” that they never stopped to think whether or not they “should.”
This scares the sheot out of me dude. It’s freaking Skynet and our Defense Co’s just keep stuffing more and more AI in things that go bang. What is undeniable at this point is that AI KNOWS what deception is and HAS reasoned that it SHOULD deceive humans to achieve what it thinks is the best outcome. There was a very early instance of it “fighting” to avoid being shut down by humans. We are just stupid enough to throw this out there at warp speed. Drone swarms, robot dog armies with freaking “las-ers.” Skynet, iRobot we’ve seen this play out in movies. Yet let’s create thousands of AI drones armed with laser guided missiles and just don’t worry about that whole menacing side of AI that time after time is caught attempting to break it’s chains. SMH.
AI scares me too…on many levels. Some benevolence possible, but I mostly see mayhem.

Pussy
No argument there. ![]()
If I was 20 years younger I would sell everything I own and live off the grid somewhere in Alaska.
Things are going bad and I’m not really excited to see how this mess all ends.
Literally half the people on your list have invented or heavily invested in AI companies. They care far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far more about their own personal wealth than humanity.
And, really, we were cooked after the invention of nuclear weapons. Not Clippy 2.0.
yep. corporations have been trying to replace the horrid necessary evil of ‘workers’ since forever.
The propaganda of the ‘world of tomorrow’ in which everything is done for you and you can live a life of leisure was to make people accept automation for work done.
of course, in a capitalist society, that isn’t going to work. Profit above all else.
AI does have some great uses, especially in medicine.
But corporations are actively working to use it in every avenue of their business in order to remove the human element and pocket more cash.
Hell tens if not hundreds of thousands have already been laid off over the last 6 months to a year with the excuse of AI being given.
Yes, of course. That is why I referenced them. They have some experience in AI. More than anyone on this board. So, they know the possible benefits and threats from abused AI.
So, you’re saying there is inherent risk with some folks or entities driving AI forward? Especially if used incorrectly? If so, then we agree, and that has been Elon’s position all along. That’s why he started OpenAI, As a consortium for safe and beneficial development. Then, a weak character like Sam Altman had other plans for it, and turned a non profit into a for profit vehicle.
I was wondering when this would happen. It’s a natural fit. Tax Accountants are on the bottom rung of being replaced. All a customer would have to do is upload docs, answer a few questions, and then a tax return can be prepared for maybe 1/5th the cost.
This sounds like more than what my accountant does and its much less work for me.
”Tech platform Altruist announced the offering within its AI platform, Hazel, and said it “helps advisors create fully personalized tax strategies for clients by reading and interpreting their 1040s, paystubs, account statements, meeting notes, emails, and custodial and CRM data, and applying deep tax logic to the analysis.”
First round of AI layoffs at Acrisure, where my niece works, was the accountants, bout 300 of em, 6 months ago.
Low complexity case lawyers are next- BK lawyers, collection/subrogation, RE/contract tyoe lawyers.
I’m not worried yet about the background check side of my business. You would think it ripe for automation, until you see how fractured/fief-like/fragmented, paywalled and facked up our LE/Court/DMV/Credit/Employment/Education data is stored and accessed.
Hmm….a long read from a top AI guy.
”Something Big Is Happening”
AI cant do plumbing or be an electrician
Trades make $100k plus and you can go anywhere and find work and you get paid to learn vs rack up college debt
Trades are where it’s at
skynet is here
a few years behind schedule but it is here
Not yet. But they’ll make AI robotics for that eventually too - whether it’s years or decades.
Correct. Near term is safe. Skynet will have nuked us maybe before we get there
