Injuries blow. Our top 3 CBs are down, plus the top reserve at safety/nickel, starting and backup LT and maybe our all pro safeties are game time decisions.
Only positive is none of them are long term outside of Rakestraw.
Maddox is a big loss - that sucks big time. Skipper will be fine, no huge drop off between him and Manu, if any. We better hope our offense can score like they have been because Mahomes could eat against our secondary.
Agree totally. I’d be far more concerned if Skipper was still out, and Manu was starting again. Skipper is limited, but he knows what to do to play effectively. My concern with Skipper is that this is his first game of the year and it takes guys some time to get up to game speed. He is a vet though, so he knows what to expect. I am sure the Chiefs will let Chris Jones move out to rush against Skipper a good amount, but you can simply run to the other side. What a lot of people don’t mention is anytime Jones moves to rush from the edge, it makes the KC DT’s much weaker and prone to runs inside.

Meanwhile, KC has to wonder what the hell is happening with Chris Jones. Historically, he’s the straw that stirs their defensive drink. Whatever you think of PFF, he’s been elite until this year: 72 as a rookie in 2016, always over 83 since then and mostly over 90 in recent years. This year? 57. And it shows in so many ways. Sudden aging for the 32 year old? Is he a pen pal with AJ Brown? If Chris Jones isn’t up for this game and doesn’t produce, KC has got big problems this year.

They are. Basically, the easy answer is this. Chris Jones is a hyper emotional guy. Same guy who cries during every National Anthem. I think age, but also just a lack of passion or complacency has gotten into Jones. Since the first game of the year, when he went into business for himself and then lost contain on the Herbert run, he’s been off. It’s one thing to make a mistake. It’s another to then bitch at your teammates because they called you on it.
Jones has also been getting pissy because teams are double teaming him and he can’t get sacks. When Jones gets doubled, no one else can get pressure. Jones was throwing temper tantrums during the Jags game, and on the TLaw TD run, Jones was going to rush, got doubled immediately, and just stepped back and watched the show. He absolutely quit, because he couldn’t get through.
After Jones has gotten roasted all week, I do expect him to show up and try. However, if the Lions stone him early, I bet he goes back into his shell. This Chiefs team is not as mentally strong as they have been. Kelce and Jones both have been letting them down, and their talent is not nearly as deep. The Chiefs have lost games, have even been outplayed in games, but they NEVER blow 2 TD leads, but did against Jacksonville. If the Lions get the run game going, I think they can mentally wear the Chiefs out. The Chiefs fans are already looking ahead to getting Rice back and playing the Raiders as the offical start of their year.

Yeah just a HUGE upgrade.
Manu can run block due to his size, and simplicity. However, his pass blocking grade was absolutely atrocious. I think it was like a 17 or something. Skipper isn’t great, but he knows what to do and can play competently. If you are Goff, you have to feel better with Skipper behind you than Manu. Especially in a place like Arrowhead.
One thing I saw during the game and again on the reply, Goff was absolutely dealing to start that game. However, after Hendrickson got to Goff (no shame on Manu, Hendrickson is a great player obviously), Goff really dialed it back and looked skittish for a few drives. Goff settled back down quickly and went back to dealing, but the second sack was really brutal. That’s a “get a guy hurt” type sack. I don’t blame the Lions one bit for going right to Skipper.
I’ll also say it. I believe in Manu’s injury as much as I believe in JJ McCarthy’s.
Yeah, not impressive considering Skip has about 10 years of NFL experience over Manu.
But you gotta love him, he’s ready to dance when they call his number. Hopefully he has a good outing.
As Weas points out, running the ball early and often at Arrowhead sounds like a really good idea, though I’m sure J. Morton will bring the whole bag of tricks to KC.
Let’s see Manu report as tackle eligible! Would be hilarious to see him get a TD.
