Although there are no known photo’s of her, Margaret Evelyn Fry Roberts was known to have a better mustache and could spit farther. Not sure that was a deal breaker for the kiss though.

I wouldn’t call me a UofM fan. I am a fan of college football and Michigan sports in general.
I watched a ton of Michigan football and I was never all that impressed with JJ. I personally thought he was overrated and would need development in the NFL to be a starter. I do think he has starter potential but MIN drafted him too high.
I am not in the least surprised by this.
Question is …. Is he really a bust? Does he have a future in the NFL even as a backup?
I think he still has an NFL future and could start with the proper coaching a scheme.

Here is my take on it. It’s hard to call a guy a straight bust after 3 years. Look at how long it took Darnold to gain his confidence and start playing solid football. Now, that being said, your point about coaching is my kicker.
JJ was hand selected by Kevin O’Connell. Who everyone agrees is a QB whisperer, and look at what he did with picking Darnold, making him the starter and running off the 2024 season. Obviously, O’Connell knows what he is doing. However, he is already giving up on a guy HE selected after just 3 seasons. This wasn’t a situation where someone else picked JJ before O’Connell even got there and he wants his own guy, like we normally see. This WAS his pick, and it takes a lot for a guy to say “I want to develop JJ” and then after 3 seasons say “we need to move on”.
What I think happened, and is purely my own speculation, is I think O’Connell spent a lot of time trying to coach JJ up. We know he was working on his throwing mechanics and footwork. For a coach to give up on a guy, says to me that either 1) JJ just isn’t getting it or 2) JJ isn’t putting in the work to get it. I have never heard someone say JJ isn’t willing to work, so that backs me off of number 2 without more evidence. The ONLY thing I’ve seen that remotely suggests JJ may have an attitude is how he handled Kyler coming into the team. He seemed very put off about it, and it’s not like JJ has remotely shown enough to show that he deserved the job. So, let’s say maybe JJ got a bit of a big head by getting drafted so high, and is carrying some entitlement?
Either way though we arrive at the same destination. A guy who was a QB, who has a proven track record as a QB whisperer, who hand selected JJ, is now also the same guy who is now picking someone else for the job.

I’m in 100% agreement. If he actually cared I think he could be a top, top QB. He’d be one of those super frustrating guys to go against who always converted 3rd downs with nonsense. But that’s not who he is. Still, it’s a contract year and he grew up a Vikings fan… IF he’s gonna ‘give it his all’ for a year, it will be this one.
I love it. I wish he would have stuck around and been juuuuust good enough to leave them with enough hope to give him a stupid second contract…then fail miserably.
Honestly, its only been 2 years of play on the field for JJ (we haven’t even started our preseason yet). And one of those he was hurt the whole year. So JJ has less than one season starting.
The Vikings QB decisions have been uh… questionable… at best the last several years.
Year 1: Bring in Darnold as a bridge, draft JJ. Didn’t seem like a horrible idea at the time. JJ is injured preseason, Darnold is really good (although not GREAT).
Year 2: Dump Darnold (no franchise tag or anything) and give the keys to JJ. However, do not ‘commit’ to it. Pull JJ with ‘injuries’ if he doesn’t look good, publicly speak negatively about him.
Year 3: Pick up an underperforming (relative to draft status) veteran QB - Kyler. Be vague about if he is there to ‘compete as a starter’ or to back up JJ. Only sign him for one year, allow a clause that does not permit a franchise tag. Name Kyler the starter before preseason, despite camp performance being close between him and JJ per several reports. Obviously JJ would not be happy with this.
Great, logical work Minnesota! Next offseason should be great! You can either A) overpay to keep Kyler around, b) try to do some mental gymnastics and play JJ when he’s already mad at the head coach, c) use more capital to draft another QB, d) sign another journeyman. All great options!
Hopefully Minnesota is mid at best, with a lot of in-season distractions. Better for us!

JJ has 10 starts in his NFL career, primarily behind an atrocious OL and he’s a bust now? God, football fans really are stupid at times, lol.

The anger and resentment here can suffocate at times…
But it is still a silly game we enjoy and watch and follow ….
I want 31 teams to not win the SB this year… but I don’t hate them or the players…. I can dislike their butts but man…. Some here as respectfully as I can say go overboard

If he could combine his football talents with his Call of Duty squad leadership skills then what a site that would be. I still think Minny is going to be tough this season. Same pain in the ass D with a much more explosive offense.

Honest question - I don’t think Kyler is that great, given that his last team just kind of gave up on him. What other moves make them more explosive than last year? Or do you think Kyler will make the difference?

I don’t know that I’d go that far. Kyler’s IDGAFedness will keep them from getting over the top imo. But I do think they could win a lot of games before the playoffs.
