I thought Michigan fans were very realistic about JJ coming out of college. The consensus was he had physical talent, but not NFL ready. He may or may not ever be. We don’t know.

I don’t know who the guy is, but I will add a log to that fire.
Remember after week 2 last year, where JJ was absolutely terrible, Jefferson was CLEARLY pissed after the game. There were a lot of reports he went into the coach’s office and had a pretty long meeting. Immediately afterwards, O’Connell announced that JJ had “hurt” his ankle, and that Wentz would be starting week 3. Wentz and the Vikings scored 48 in a massacre against a terrible Bengals defense.
If this guy is right, and it’s Jefferson who can’t stand playing with McCarthy, then O’Connell has no choice. JJ would be best served requesting a trade and trying to get himself to SF to work with Shanahan.

I’ll add one more. Kyle Shanahan is a QB guru, he has the resume to back that up. However, Shanahan is also the same guy who drafted Trey Lance at #3, and quickly gave up on him and turned to 7th round pick Brock Purdy.
If the most recent post is right that it’s Jefferson pushing to replace JJ, then it’s all moot from O’Connell’s side anyways. The Vikings are absolutely tied to Jefferson.

There were rumors that Shanahan wanted Mac Jones (who he ultimately got and performed pretty well for him).
In retrospect, Shanahan would’ve saved himself trouble if he had simply drafted Jones.
I don’t blame JJ for coming out after winning the natty, he capitalized on the opportunity and made a lot of money bc of it. But he clearly needed more time to develop. I would LOVE to bring him in to sit behind Goff for a couple years and see if they can catch lightning in a bottle.

JJs future might be as a really good backup. He’s a winner and as cliche as that sounds, it’s a real trait.
He does have the tools to be a starter in the league imo. But he was as raw as raw gets coming out as a “pocket QB.”

They never really asked JJ to process at UM. He’s another one of these tools guys. They don’t work out too often because processing is the most important tool a QB has.

Im a big Michigan fan, JJ was a fine enough college QB. But im not gonna pretend the “play call scouting” didnt help. I never saw him as a viable NFL starter. Especially with what? 12 passes per game in his college career

Im sorry but JJ has a 57% comp% with a 66% on target throw %. 42% success rate. And a 10% sack rate. Thats not a bad oline. Thats a horrible QB. Oline didnt help. But at a certain point, he just aint good.
The chuck the ball to the speedy receiver or use your legs to pick up 4-6 yards works great in college. Ain’t happening in the NFL.
he gave me big Tre Lance and Anthony Richardson red flags coming out. And the fact he was drafted that high doesn’t help. Oh and having arguably the best if not top 5 WR duo in the league. You know damn well those super stars told the team “get us a QB or we want traded”

Aaron Jones AVGERED nearly 6 yards before contact rushing on 9 attempts. He was un touched. They couldn’t stop a nose bleed.
Oh and that was with a healthy defense minus kerby. so i really hope the defense play scheme is fixed. Because it was 100% the ex/os last year not jimmy and joes

It’s not about learning from Murray. It’s about starting to make up for a lot of time lost to injury. Dude missed his entire rookie year, starting w/the preseason knee injury. Then he missed almost half of last year w/several injuries.
Rakestraw has missed a comparable amount of time to injury - time that he couldn’t work on his game. It’s no wonder that they have stuff to work on. I just hope that Rakestraw can stay healthy and keep working. If he does, good bet we see a notably better CB in a bit. Same may be true of JJ.
