So hereās where we stand:
PG - Cade, Okorie, Jenkins
SG - Robinson, Joe, Huerter, Harris, Lanier
SF - Ausar, Holland, Green, Prince
PF - Collins, Jones
C - Duren, Reed, Onyenso, Smith
Concerned about that depth inside, especially at PF. But the 3-point shooting should be a ton better than last year. Prince and Harris are vets and limited, but both shot over 40% from 3 last year.
Although I will say that the LaVert salary was a key piece in a bigger salary trade that the trade exception created by this trade canāt be used in so I suppose it does make a bigger trade less likely now. Honestly though, I never expected Langdon to make a bigger trade. He seems very much cut from that Brad Holmes methodical I like my guys cloth.
Unlessā¦ā¦
Thereās TWO bigger trades coming!

I read the cap space is just about what we would need to pay KD without paying the tax.
I think thatās wishful thinking.
I mean, LaVert was one of the last tradeable assets. Now weāre down to Robinson and Holland. Its not enough to salary match anyone of note.
The trade exception canāt be used in a trade.
I think weāre done. I sure hope not, but Durant or Murphy looks impossible, if weāre bringing Duren back.
If we are done then Iām going to be very disappointed. We improved our shooting and floor spacing which was needed badly, but I also think we took a step back defensively.
Iām not sure that our overall roster construction is really any better. If it is better its just marginal IMO.
Iām also extremely disappointed. I donāt really care that we ātriedā to make a big move and āstruck out.ā If you donāt actually get anything done, then your ātryingā doesnāt matter. I didnāt care that the Tigers ātriedā to sign Alex Bregman before the 2025 season because it didnāt actually happen, and I donāt care that we ātriedā to make a big trade because it didnāt actually happen.
Itās always darkest before more dark.
wait wait wait. how long do we have to wait?? the only silver lining is that weāre set up better to make a deal around the trade deadline. wait wait wait. damn.
If Holland takes a massive jump, weāll be OK. Its time for him. I hope heās shooting 400 three pointers every day.
And trade deadline deals never work out as well as offseason deals. Oh by the way, that means our team has to play well for the first half of the season without a secondary scorer or ball handler.
Would like to nominate for post of the day lol

Offseason is over.
From what Iām reading now and the NBA cap rules are getting pretty funky, it looks like they are approximately 72 million below the first apron including the 15 million trade exception. This should be enough to facilitate a resigning of Duren and adding one big salary. Am I missing something?
My understanding was that they could sign Duren to a decent contract but they wouldnāt be able to do much more.
Finances in the NBA are by far the most complicated of all of the major sports leagues though, so I also have no idea.

I just canāt shake the feeling that something big is coming down the pike.
