Wrong, they literally had a camera trained on the scoreboard. When you watch the replay the refs used, they were seeing the video of the play next to the video of the scoreboard clock. You can see the scoreboard graphics on the shot.
Tv clock and stadium clock were simply not in sync, no matter what the announcers said. Which clock do you go by? According to this, the TV clock.

Which is hilarious since the network previously came out and said that the TV clock was slightly ahead of where it should have been.
What in the actual ■■■■. They bragged about using the Hawkeye or whatever strobe system to set every clock down to the millisecond, and then at the most important moment of the entire game we have 3 clocks out of sync. Admittedly the odds of something like this happening were incredibly low. Several unlikely things had to go wrong at the same time, like an airplane crash.
