Noone can take the win away from Michigan, so you can calm down. Also, this wasn’t something that took time away from Western. Michigan had to make an incredible play to win the game.
That being said, you are missing why this was so controversial. The networks have 2 ways of showing fans the time. One is their own digital time shown in their graphic. The other is literally a live feed from a camera that is pointed directly at the stadium clock. The stadium clock hit 0. You can argue the point all you want, but that is what happened. What we learned was that there is a time mechanism that is “more official" than the main stadium clock that the officials relied upon for the review. That is why this grew legs the way it did.
The play before the first hail Mary, the receiver caught the ball and went down with 11 seconds on the clock, the clock kept rolling until 8 seconds. The refs had the clock put back to 9 seconds and as soon as the ball was hiked the clock went to 8 seconds which means the clock didn’t use 1 second before rolling again or that 9 really means 8 and .999 seconds. So if the clock hits 0, it can be assumed that theres .999 of clock not being shown? Its all very odd.
But what people are just ignoring is they gave up a Hail Mary to lose the game. It’s not some great conspiracy that Michigan was awarded an extra second. If the fix were truly in…it doesn’t get to the point of giving them another shot at a prayer lol.
Also, if you are not a WMU fan, just move on with your life. Like who cares
That live feed pointed at the stadium clock was the one used in the replay. Go back and watch the replay video they put out. You see that P to the right of the clock? That’s the P from penalties that was on the scoreboard graphic.
I guess my main point is, I’m not sure I like that a tv broadcast clock is the go to clock over the actual clock in the stadium.
This is a long winded way of saying there’s a lot of people that hate UM because of the Stallions ‘much ado about nothing’, their arrogance, and the Harbaugh era. They wanted to continue the “Michigan cheated” or “Michigan got away with another one” narrative for as long as humanly possible.
If this was an irrelevant program and they came out and said, “well we followed the rule as it was implemented, whether you like it or not,” no one would bat an eyelash. They would say, “that rule is crap and should change, but they did it correctly,” but that’s not the response and we know why.
