You are right the name means nothing. Kinda annoying IMO. When I lived is Asia all the baseball teams were named after companies instead of cities. For example the Kia Tigers played in Gwangju. The Doosan Bears played in Seoul. The best team in Japan the Yomiuri Giants played in Tokoyo.
Hard to keep track of. But had nothing to do with geography.
