NFL Combine Notes

Why do you say that? Just you’re feeling from mocks or are you referencing the combine.

I still think he’s got a shot to go pretty high. Maybe top 20.

His 2024 was special for a season that he began the year as an 18 year old. Sounds like there is going to be 2025 scheme/usage debate in the draft lead up. How that resolves itself will matter. Same with Ant. Plus it only takes one team. :man_shrugging:

Like the fit but he probably goes higher than where we’ll be shopping for a QB.

That is precisely it. If you believe that Detroit still wants an Edge setting bully that collapses pockets then he’s a glove like fit.

I’m huge on early breakouts so I value his 2024 quite a bit. Was 2025 alignment/usage related? As Eric Galko of the Shrine says “these guys don’t just get worse.”

In fairness to AG a man should only get so excited about watching large men in spandex jump over bags. :joy:

Sorry, I phrased it poorly. Meant to say he had a middling day. As with anyone I’m commenting about on here during the combine, unless it’s really tragic or stupendous, that really only means a max of something like 5% movement on my board, in either direction. So not fading. Just moved like the OK athlete we saw on tape. I saw some people thinking he might surprise. We’ll see what happens during the testing.

Payton is the ONLY deep shot I think has a chance to pan out this year. I wouldn’t bet anything on it of course, but he’s one of the few you can tell yourself a story about.

I actually think today is as important as any day this week. It’s a loaded safety class and a good CB class. I wouldn’t be overly surprised if 2 of them become Lions.

Guys who fit us the most (of the guys who seem like they’re testing): D’Angelo Ponds, Keith Abney, Keionte Scott, Treydan Stukes, Brandon Cisse, VJ Payne, Julian Neal, Chandler Rivers, Michael Taafe, Dillon Thieneman, Zakee Wheatley, Bishop Fitzgerald, Ceyair Wright.

Also Mansoor Delane, but he probably goes too high to be an option.

BTW, here is a google doc with all of the testing/measureables listed in one spot.

Ponds not huge, but not as shrimpy as feared either

Hes a Day 2 guy, hes one of the best LBers in the draft this year

this years Demetrius Knight imo

Is he testing at that weight?

Earl Little at the combine. He plays like a Lion. Which means he’ll end up on IR.

NVM. . Transferred to OSU. Good get @HSVLion.

Probably so. I always thought he was a day 2 guy, though I had him on the lower side of it. Now he might be on the higher side of it. To anyone who needs a MIKE, he’ll be really tempting.

I’ll also say, unless he goes to a team with a loaded front, the DL he plays behind in the league is likely to be worse, relative to the competition, than the one he played behind in college. He was really unburdened back there, a lot of other guys didn’t have that luxury. I do wonder how he’ll fare when he has to take on blocks more often.

Yeah he’s a good player. Obviously nobody can replace Caleb Downs, but he should be a good player for us.

It’s interesting seeing the player he is now compared to when he left Bama.

I hear he’s doing everything but running the 40. I don’t know if that’s includes the agilities.
