So context, OP on the Reddit post broke news of the CMC trade to San Fran a couple weeks before it happend.
He has returned with the news that Apparently Bosa may get dealt to an unnamed AFC team, mainly due to the FO and Bosa clashing over his contract, Bosa wants alot more money, Niners FO disagrees with giving him it, and are fully willing to deal him to a AFC team thats willing to trade and pay him the money he wants
Only big wrinkle is that Ownership may overrule the FO, and Give Bosa the lucrative contract he wants
Essentially, Bosa is either getting traded, and getting a lucrative contract, or hes staying and getting that lucrative contract, cause ownership is tired of the FO’s shit in the bay
Trading away Bosa when the NFC is super weak overall would make no sense. The 49ers are clearly one of 3 top teams in the NFC. They have a legit shot at the super bowl.
The Trey lance thing is a big blow, that sucks. Lynch has been a really good GM overall but blowing a 3rd overall along with all the trades picks hurts a lot. They’d have been better off taking Mac Jones
I don’t see how they could make that work. Joe Burrow is going to be the NFL’s highest paid QB and maybe the most of any player in NFL history and Bosa could very well do that as well for the EDGE position. Not to mention Tee Higgin’s contract situation …
Execs who don’t want to pay the asking price are the ones who try to convince fans that you can’t pay top players top money because you will run out with only a few of them. That’s been a fib for a long time. The Bengals are a different story. They can make it work with the cap, they just don’t have the cash flow for the guarantees that will be required for so much top end talent.
For those that are not aware, owners have to put money aside for the guarantees in a players contract. This doesn’t just apply to signing bonuses. So if the first 3 years of a players contract is guaranteed, the owner has to put all of that money in escrow. The Bengals are one of the last remaining “cash poor” teams in the league, and they have been fighting against that practice.
That would definitely be SOL. Another SOL moment would be Chris Jones showing up ONLY for week 1 to wreck shop and show what he is worth. Then he continues his holdout thru the Bears and Vikings games. He either gets paid or a disgruntled Jones fakes injury against the Packers.
I’ll never understand teams that see having truly elite players as a problem to overcome. You get yourself in trouble by overpaying for good but not great players, like Bob and the fat man did with Trey Flowers. Resetting the market for an absolute game wrecker like Bosa is not overpaying.
Yet he has built a championship roster. Bradley PR Holmes getting bronzed after an 8-2 finish in a lost season, and doing nothing to repair a broken WR room when the division is down (not for long-wait to see how good Love and Fields are). This fanbase is amazing. I would take Lynch and Shanahan over Holmes and Campbell (I actually like Campbell) any day and twice on Sundays. Especially on Sundays.
