Not Perfect... But OMG

In Brad we trust!

I understand what you’re saying, but most of those players, if not all, are not just starters they’re all pros and pro bowlers. They’re not the Roy Williams or Tavai type starters from the past.

Agreed. I’ll also give credit to les Snead and howie roseman. They’re also very good.

Yeahhhhh… you didn’t read any further than that first bit.

I think Brad should get more credit than he did for the Penei pick. He had Justin Fields, Devonta Smith, Justin Fields, and Mac Jones sitting there, and he went with Penei. A fairly obvious choice, but there were plenty of people clamoring to take a QB and move on from Goff after a bridge year.

The Hutch pick was more obvious, so I don’t give him as much credit, but he still could have screwed it up!

Where’s Grady?

Which is exactly why he should get the credit.

It is my belief that Brad creates a board with “his guys” on it. This is beyond just removing typical red flag turds etc. Then come hell or high water he is going to take those guys before anyone else is close to taking them. Just to make sure, especially after round 1. When he thinks a position group needs attention he may alter this, to make sure he gets one of his guys that meets positional need. There is just no way that Gibbs as good as he’s been (I was and am a huge fan of the guy), Paschal, Hooker, BroMart, Campbell or Manu were BPA when they were taken. They were Brad’s favorite guys within the areas they were taken, with a couple extreme reaches like BroMart and Manu thrown in for good measure because they were huge and Brad likes huge, hoping that they will learn how to play football.

All that said, HIS guys have proven out to be better en masse than the Big Boards we are privy to and where they are positioned. Would I trade him out for any GM in the league? Heck no. Is Brad a BPA guy and it shows? Heck no.

Agree w/this

I think many of them are, through Brad’s lens. I think they firmly believe in Dan’s ability to assist them to their ceilings, which puts “projects” higher on the board. I also think he uses injured players and developmental players to drive salary cap down and talent up.
I think Gibby is damn near BPA in the entire NFL, let alone college…That cat is a MASSIVE difference-maker
.
I really agree w/what you say about setting the board up and taking “his guys” though.

The culture fit is what increases the likelihood that they reach their ceiling, as well as fit with others. 100% guts’n’effort. 100% of the time.

Depends on how you define BPA. I suspect by Brad’s definition, he may be much more of a BPA guy ya think…he just defines BPA differently than some of us.

Best future Lion available is more like it. I agree though with your overall post. If he falls in love with a player he might draft him a lot sooner than many other GM’s. Then again he has been extremely patient waiting to draft guys like St. Brown, Kerby, Alim. Some of his patient picks have been his best values. Branch too kinda. We eventually picked him. But we could have done it several times before we did.

I will never forget the behind the scenes look when Sheila was asking about WR’s and Brad kept saying they loved St. Brown but he knew he could wait to get him later. He was right.

I think in the first 2 rounds he goes BPAish. In the 3rd round on down I think he goes more after “his guys”.

I must know, did Ben even check how bare the cupboard was before he… Oh nevermind, he didn’t want to move cross-county and took the massive salary now I remember.

On that note, we obviously hold all the talent cards in the division. The NFC North is ours in perpetuity!!!

rarely is there any draft pick that is obvious, including Hutch, we found out he was a beast after the pick somehow our staff has a second sense on getting that type of player, but nothing is garunteed except death.

We could make a whole thread to the definition of BPA.

Still around brother. Just drinking from life’s firehose!

Actually the definition is quite easy. It’s people who try to turn the real definition into a pretzel in order to fit BH into what they view as the superior philosophy that makes it a thread.

BPA would be making a list top to bottom of best player to least REGARDLESS of position. Then NO MATTER WHAT taking the next player available on your list. Probably zero GM’s do this. All say they do. BH wants Jack Campbell. He’s sitting at 18. No way in hades he goes at 19, the penetrating 3t DT does, but the FEAR of him not making it to our 2nd round pick prompts BH to take HIS guy right now. That is the BH way. If that is BPA in someones mind, then okie dokey…

I can’t wait to see who he is targeting this year.

That is why I’ve been so completely out of touch with all things draft this year. Just going to read the bios and watch the tape after I know who we take. No bro crushes to worry about.
