OK, so how does Sutton affect the draft?

OK, but isn’t Bijan Robinson proof—or, at least could be proof—that “BPA” is bullshit? Dude is according to many a top 5 player in this draft, but because of the economics of the RB position, some have him sliding to the middle or even bottom of round 1.

I think BPA is always true to an extent.

With Okudah coming up on his 5th year option a solid corner would not be a bad thing. But if it were Gonzales v Wilson I go Wilson. His length will cause problems on the edge. He sets a great edge and can get to the passer. with more pressure on the passer the corners don’t need to be quite as good.

If the go CB at 6, I hope Nolan Smith is there at 18. looks and feels like a Campbell guy.
If they go DL at 6 I think a solid corner will be there at 18 if they want. Maybe Bijan if we don’t sign Williams.

For many positions it is BS for sure! Just don’t tell that to Lions GM’s about Tight ends.

I don’t think the Sutton signing takes Gonzalez or Witherspoon off the board at 6 but it gives the Lions more flexibility to open up their draft board at 6, not that I think Holmes would have been need hungry in the first place.

Personally, I wouldn’t have taken corner at 6 just for the sake of filling a need even before the Sutton signing and even moreso now. It’s always been BPA for me and I’m just not sure that any of the corners are the BPA at 6 even with Anderson and Carter gone. I like Tyree Wilson more and am intrigued by Kancey, lets build a killer line which will make the LBs and secondary better. Build them trenches.

I still wouldn’t be opposed to Gonzalez or Witherspoon at 6 but it wouldn’t be my preferred option.

QBHater stated in the AA signing thread that the Lions feel they have a top ten defense right now. I take that as right now with the roster they have, if so then 1) BPA is going to be the approach for at least the 1st round and 2) I’m just not sure what they are looking at to conclude they have a top ten defense.

We need at least a very good DT that can handle the run and provide pressure, and we need some more DB talent before we start talking top 10 defense

I think when to talk BPA, positional value in already factored in. For example, Robinson may be the best talent, but he may not rank ahead of guys like Gonzalez because of positional value.

Waco has embers of Branch Davidian members that are hotter than that guys’ draft stock

100% my feeling as well, it’s gonna be Wilson IMO… I don’t think Holmes to going to invest #6 on a guard and waste that rookie contract on one of the cheaper positions in the NFL

I think they go CB in round 2, either Banks or Ricks would be a scheme fit and should be available.

Lol…Siaki Ika is trying to explain in interviews that it’s what they call jiggly muscle. I’m sure his stock will go right back up.

We will add CB depth but I’m not convinced it happens round one. In fact I doubt it.

There’s a strong possibility the Lions go offense at 6 and 18.

The BPA for one team isn’t necessarily the BPA for another team.

And then some teams build their boards based off of positonal value.

I think the Sutton signing makes it less likely we draft Brian Branch because I think NB will be Sutton’s primary position.

None of the FA signings so far are “game changers” that would alter who we take in the draft IMO.

You build your team in free agency like there isn’t going to be a draft. That way you are free to take the BPA when it is your pick and not particularly concerned what position they play (other than they obvious stuff like if the BPA is a WR with every pick, you don’t draft 7 WR’s).

OG, RB, TE are the only real positions we could look to the draft for a #1 starter. 8 of the 11 starters are already locked in. Technically Big V is still under contract. As it stands now Swift would be our current #1 RB, not the best of situations with his injury history but definitely not the worst rated player. Our TE group is “solid” so if we had to go into 2023 with the same group, we w=ould survive.

Secondary is still a weak spot. We still need to add a pair of starting DB’s IMO (1 CB and 1 S).

LB is still a weak spot IMO. Looks like we could very well end up starting a pair of LB’s that arent’ starter worthy IMO. I’m hoping we add another LB in the draft

DE is our most solid group on defense. Hutch, Houston, Harris, Paschal, Okwara. BPA could be a DE. That could mean a cap cut/trade for Harris or Okwara.

DT is a must in this draft. It may or may not come at #6 but I would bet money we draft at least one DT.

8 of 11 on offense are locked in. I’d say only 5 of 11 on defense are locked in (Hutch, Alim, Analzone, Sutton, Joseph).

Funny, I was going to say that i think Sutton’s signing lessens the chance for us signing Gonzo but increases the chance of signing Branch, because we have a quasi 1/2 outside corner. Maybe your right.

I think they may be looking at the 4th QB, whomever that may be (probably Levis). Just a hunch.

That would be something, but when you look at all the moves today, mostly defense. You could be right!

When it’s all said and done, I think it’ll be DL and Offense for our 2 1st rounders.

If only we can fleece Minnesota again so we can go DL, OL, and Bijan

Did we though? If Sutton isn’t an outside CB then we still have a dire need at CB IMHO. We upgraded Will Harris.

When did Skoronski become the 2nd coming of Quenton Nelson?

I sure didn’t say that!?

I’m pretty confident in saying Sutton will have a lot more snaps outside this year than inside.
