Lol. I know it was Jman saying we may take an offensive player at 6. I assume that’s who he was talking about unless he was going QB. I’ve heard a few people mention us taking Skoronski. I just don’t see it. I think he’s the best OT in one of the worst OT classes in years and we have our starting OT’s.
I hope you are right. When I heard some saying he’s a slot/nickel for sure, it’s got me feeling all Justin Colemany.
He played a lot more snaps outside last year and if you go by PFF, his two worst graded games is when he played the most nickel. That would also be a lot of money to play a nickel CB.

Yep would not be surprised at all. Johnston/JSN/ or gasp Robinson…then follow that up at 18 with an OG or WR if they took Robinson
I know alot like to talk about positional value and such. Yet the league has turned into such a pass and RPO league. However the lions are bringing back the true running game that not many teams have. With this line, with St Brown and Jamo and teams running 4 2 5 and dime defenses RB is a huge need. Swift can never stat healthy, we don’t know whats up with Jamal, we could still lose him.
Funny, I was going to say that i think Sutton’s signing lessens the chance for us signing Gonzo but increases the chance of signing Branch, because we have a quasi 1/2 outside corner. Maybe your right.
I think they may be looking at the 4th QB, whomever that may be (probably Levis). Just a hunch.
Versatility is part of Sutton’s game, so perhaps he will be an edge CB. A POD podcast even suggested that the Lions will move Okudah to NB, and in that case, Sutton will stay outside like he did most of last season.
Will Okudah have a significant role in 2023? I’d think so–I don’t think he’ll be a $10M coach like Brockers. Part of me thinks he worked so hard to get back from his Achilles injury that he wore down as the season went on. Who starts opposite Sutton without the draft, Okudah or Jacobs? If Jacobs, then Okudah gets pushed inside because of his tackling and run defense, right?
CB was never an option at 6!
That’s just madden talk and a complete waste of a top pick, unless one of them is the next Sauce, which none of them are!
Get used to it people Holmes is NOT taking a CB at 6!
There is way too much CB depth in this class to be using the 6 overall pick on one!
I’ll eat my crow if needed but it’s not gonna happen.
We will be drafting one of Carter, Anderson or Willis or maybe Skoronski……book it!

The good thing is we have alot of options. I think you’re right, Okudah could excel in the slot. But Jacobs has some dog in him that also suggests slot. I haven’t given up on Iffy in the slot, either. Its good to have some depth here; these guys really get banged up.
Thinking about it more, I guess what we truly lack are pure speed guys for the outside. Even with Sutton. In that sense, Gonzo may still be in play. Perhaps getting Sutton lessens the chance for Spoon, though, who is sort of my favorite CB in this year’s draft. I think Spoon may end up with the Eagles.
Another thought: if we lack a pure speed corner, Banks will probably be there at 18, with his 4.35 40.
Best Punter Available!! Fox will not like this.
Just wait until we draft the punter from Michigan… @BigNatty 's head would explode trying to decide what to do…
Yea, I’m not sure where this idea that Sutton was a Slot/NB came from. He took over 70% of his snaps on the outside like you said.
The feds are still roasting marshmallows on the embers of all those people they horrifically burned alive eh?

That was last year. In an interview he said he felt like a rookie playing on the outside that much because he wasnt used to it.
Well he didn’t play like a rookie out there
He played a total of 931 defensive snaps for the Steelers in 2022, logging 655 as a wide cornerback and 185 as a slot cornerback.
He notched a career-best 15 passes defensed last season, intercepting three passes. He allowed a passer rating of 69.6 when targeted through the air last season.
I don’t think the Lions signed him for this much to play Slot/NB, they have other options on the team to play that spot. They needed an outside CB
The biggest thing I read from the tea leafs are options. The pressure is off. Call Sutton whatever, but pencil him in as a starting CB of whatever flavor you like, but he is 1/11th of the solution.
The biggest option I see on the table is Will Levis, in conjunction with Tennessee and Washington. I feel with Sutton on board, the pressing need to add there during the draft gets shoved to BPA with adding a CB for the slot by the 5th round.
When you look at 6OA, and consider who is likely, measured against contract and impact, slipping back to 11 or 16 becomes more appealing. I don’t believe that Sheila will sign off on Carter and I’ll tell you why. Reggie Rogers. Say what you will, but the Ford’s have done an admirable job of keeping people with severe character red flags at arms length.
I’m not sure what kind of compensation the Lions can garner from a move down the board, but I do think if you’re looking hard at a guy like Bijan Robinson to be our own Todd Gurley, you can justify taking him at 11 or 16. If you believe that the window is open, you quit worrying about shelf life and you go for immediate impact.
I also think you look at what it does to the Steelers picking right in front of the Lions at 17, and now if you trade down with Washington at 16, or you’re considering that, I think you really take a hard look at their board and what it does picking just ahead of the Lions second first round pick.
You’d have to think with a chrome dome like that he would make a hell of a LB right?

Brother Brad is well aware of all of this → I think it is one of his superpowers …being able to predict what the “competition” (lol) is going to do.
I think BPA is always true to an extent.
BPA comes with an asterisk for sure.
With Okudah coming up on his 5th year option
I think Sutton helps the CB situation, but it’s still bleek. Personally I expect them to decline the 5th year option on Okudah, but still try to bring him back on a more cap friendly deal that’s a closer representation of his talent - and load it full of incentives.
QBHater stated in the AA signing thread that the Lions feel they have a top ten defense right now. I take that as right now with the roster they have
Which is so wild because the refrain on here is that AG can’t be fairly judged because the roster is so awful.
DT is a must in this draft. It may or may not come at #6 but I would bet money we draft at least one DT.
Personally I think Sutton signing has moved “pass rushing DT” to the top of our needs list. I think it’s telling that Brad drafted Levi immediately after taking the job. He knows he needs to collapse the pocket from the inside just as much as he needs edge rushers. I mean the guy came from LA with Donald for fudge sake. DT is without a doubt going to get addressed.
I also think you look at what it does to the Steelers picking right in front of the Lions at 17
Almost every mock draft in existence has Pitt drafting a corner already. Swapping Sutton with an over the hill Peterson and it feels clearly obvious that Pitt is drafting CB with their 17th pick. If the Lions hope to take a DL with their first pick, and grab one of the top corners at 18… I do think Pitt being at 17 is less than ideal.
Contract details are out for Cameron Sutton’s three-year, $33 million contract. The deal is backloaded, featuring a base salary of just $1.1 million in 2023 before swelling to $10.5 million in 2024-25. The Lions have also packed two void years onto the back end of the deal, which allows them to spread out the $10.9 million signing bonus over five years instead of three. All told: Sutton will have a cap hit of just $3.28 million in 2023, but that climbs to $12.68 million in 2024-25, plus there’s another $4.36 million that will be triggered from the void years in 2026, when Sutton is no longer under contract. The structure of this contract minimizes the financial burden right now, but kicks some of the can down the road, which isn’t a huge problem because the cap always goes up
So could mean another big signing?
I wish. But that’s highly unlikely.
I doubt we see anyone externally come in for over 3 AAV
