On trading up

I am not that all up on either Miller or Lomu from watching them, but from what I have read Miller seems to be a solid tackle and can hit the ground running, but Lomu seems to have a higher ceiling based on his reactive agility. Lomu seems to be more of a wild card but from what I have read he has a nasty streak to him, so putting him opposite Penei would give us some Nasty bookends :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Both Miller and Lomu have the requisite level of nasty (I think Miller might be even nastier), my biggest concern with Lomu is his high-waisted, long-legged build. I don’t know that he’ll ever be able to get his base strong enough to be an elite T. His steps are so long and lopey he misses at the 2nd level more than you’d think for a guy that athletic. He also struggles with inside counters, I think for the same long-legged reasons.

For me the bet on Lomu is whether you think he can get strong enough in his lower half to make the leap toward his ceiling. I really have no idea which way I’d bet.

Everything I read/hear about Miller just screams SOLID all around. eh?

That’s a good way to think of him, yeah. As a prospect, like Decker. That’s not a skill comp, just a ceiling/floor comp. Decker was stronger but Miller’s more athletic and longer.

In 2008 pick 17, Lions took RT Gosder Cherilus

We also got Avril that draft.

Great writes up’s That’s, all of them.

Me I would piss on a spark plug for Rubin Bain

Bradley Chubb tier prospect ?

I like the Brandon Graham comp, both for play style and prospect level.

I think Iheanachor is more in the Cherilus bucket. The upside play. Again, not style comps, just profiles

So would you rather have one of Bain or 2 of in your case I will say Miller and Jacas? I would go with the 2 players but different names.

Who’s #1 ? Reese or Downs

Yeah, probably the two players but it’s close. Bain for us specifically is a force multiplier, but I don’t think he’s so much better than Jacas that it’s worth passing on a starting tackle.

Agree completely, which is why I suggested next years 2nd. I get that next years draft is deep but at this juncture the Lions are sort of in the -play for today- mode aren’t they? Bain would create issues for opponents and I think there’s an exponential drop off between him and anyone available in the second where as the drop off in OT prospects between rd 1 and 2 is negligible. So, by keeping this years 2nd you go get the OT

Also, if they traded next years second there’s nothing to stop them from trading ‘28 picks to replenish ‘27. Haven’t the Rams utilized this concept fairly effectively?

Maybe not to the extent the Browns have done it but strategically wouldn’t hurt.

Yea who knows what will happen. But Holmes does target guys and goes and gets them.

This reminds me a bit of the whole story line with guys like Aaron Donald and Ed Oliver tbh. I can’t seem to recall a player ever specifically failing because he got to the pros and his arms were too short.

Oh no. That’s our pick for sure

This is a great analysis. It would be tough with our needs at edge and OT. I think our 4th rounder (or even a fourth this year and something mid round next year) would only move the needle to 14 or something. I’d love to get ahead of the Rams, they ALWAYS pick the players that i want.

wait for it, it’s his knee……..Brad:

It will be interesting to see what they do, I do wonder if trading up for a tackle is on the table considering Lomu and Miller will most likely be there. I read recently Downs might drop not jus bc of the knee but also bc some don’t value him as much as fans. I love safeties, so I am all in for Downs…..as long as that knee is okay…..TBH, I doubt Downs is the pick. They have had chances to take a safety high in the first round and taken DE or other positions of need first. Bane……I wouldn’t be mad at all.

I saw Dwight Freeney somewhere too. Which I thought made some sense based on the traits/size and get off.
