One hot take: Lions lost Stafford trade

And think about this, After the Rams won the SB and Aaron Donald’s retirement, they went through a mini rebuild. Most of the contributing guys are from the draft. They’ve done a great job in developing players. It’s kind of bizarre to see them passing us

The $$$ Goff is being paid is not to manage. He has to produced and make others better. A lot of the money paid out to the offense will make it difficult for the Lions to have a great defense IMO

Uncomfortable, why, what makes it uncomfortable for Lion fans?
How long have Snead and McVey been in place for LA? How long has Howie been in place in Philly? In what year of their roles did they win the SB? Their 2nd?

For me not uncomfortable at all, enjoying the hell out of the ride, best five years of Lion’s football in my 60yrs on this earth and it isn’t finished. They have been in their Detroit roles for five years? It took both Howie and Snead a while to win and get their first SB win. Will Holmes and Dan do so? Don’t know but not sure I would put LA in the same category as KC.

And I do have the Rams as a favorite right now, key being right now, lot can change in 7 weeks.

There is so much truth here. No question about this statement.

I think the way the playoffs played out in 2021, Goff would have won the Superbowl if they hadn’t traded and probably wouldn’t have taken miracle 50-50 balls like it did for Stafford in the Superbowl.

It is still my contention that the only reason the Rams made it to the Superbowl was the 49ers did them a favor and knocked off Green Bay. If Green Bay would have played the Rams, the legend of John Stafford would be dead in the water. It was weird, only the Rams could beat the Niners that season, and Niners were the only team that could have stopped Green Bay. And that exactly how it played out.

I’d say the trade worked for both, one can make the argument that because the Rams won the SB, they won the trade. But the Rams haven’t really sniffed it since, but it did help jump start the Lions from mediocrity to contender.

True. He’s being paid to play HERO ball when they need him too.

But with the offensive line play this year and him not playing well

under pressure the Defense which wins championships will have to

set the tone and get it done. Just my opinion.

The money Goff is making is what you pay a proven NFL starting QB… Would you take Tua over Goff? Purdy? Lawrence? They all make the same or more than Goff. Are you advocating trading multiple 1sts to move up to draft an unproven rookie QB for the contract savings? cough Mccarthy cough

Man, I think its simpler than that.

Rams won a Super Bowl because of Stafford.

Lions have not won a Super Bowl due to any of the assets returned.

Hence, Rams won the trade.

When we win a SB with Goff, (or other assets from the trade) then the trade can be a tie, or maybe even a win.

Being good, coming in second, etc. just doesn’t move a needle for me.

Which was worse? That drop or the doink off the hemet catch vs Kindle Vilmore? Two plays that potentially flip this whole script.

I didn’t even bother reading this article because I’m annoyed by the “who won the trade” talk that will never end.

There are no winners or losers. It’s two completely different scenario’s. Stafford didn’t want to go through another rebuild. The Lions needed to rebuild. It was time to start over for both of them and it was all done with the utmost respect from both sides.

The Rams were all in for a championship and won! One of my favorite ever! Our boy got one! For the Lions, they needed to get some good players and they did! They won mutliptle divisions, went to NFCCG they should have won, won 15 games, etc. They lost some important players like Ragnow and dealt with injuries, but they’re still 6-4 and in great shape.

They both got what they wanted out of the trade.

Why don’t these articles ever come out after a win by the Lions? It’s just so typical whenever they have a bad game, stories like this are written. Just three weeks ago we were on top of everyone’s power rankings. Think of this; we effectively turned the ball over six times in Philadelphia, in shitty weather, and lost by seven points. We are by no means out of this race. We are in the thick of it.

Since we lost this trade so bad and the Rams just fleeced us, I think the NFL should step in and award us an additional 3rd round pick from the Rams in this years draft.

Well, you have to look at it like that year when we beat LA, then should have went to the SB but we were cursed by the football gods for one half of football in SF…we win that game and well…

I am as big of Stafford fan as any, I didn’t like the trade, but there is such a thing as win/win. We weren’t competitive when we traded Stafford. A long way from it, even with Stafford. The trade definitely took us the right direction and if we win a SB in the coming years with guys like Goff/Campbell, Jamo, and Laporta its gonna be just fine.

It’s a win win in my book. I’m happy Matthew got his ring. And the assets we got laid the foundation of what we have now.

Matt forced their hand. He just wanted to win and salvage his legacy.

Far too many wishywashy fans are stuck in 2008.

This isn’t even close to the pre-Holmes/Campbell teams. Not even in the same neighborhood.

Some of y’all would be happier if you were Browns fans.

Yes. Of course Reynolds dropped it.

well if he did, it was because the team was ran by idiots and Matt knew he wasn’t ever going to win there.

Blockquote

That’s funny because the 49ers beat the Rams twice that year in the regular season
