Outside of Tyleik, Tate, Moore & Miller: Brad’s drafting has been bad

I don’t consider us a playoff team if we don’t make the playoffs.

Shouldn’t considered the Chiefs a playoff team then either.

2026 Brad drafted guys who were productive in college, I wonder if someone upstairs told him not to draft projects, I still don’t understand the Teslaa pick he wasn’t good in college

It was probably the 2023 draft the really sent Brad over the edge. He went rogue and took a smaller RB and an off-ball LB in the first round against the practiced norms. It was after this that he thought he could do no wrong. Turns out he is very capable of doing wrong.

Semantics

You build an NFL championship-caliber team through the trenches, offensive line and defensive line. Everything else is secondary and, to a degree, more plug-and-play. Yet Holmes keeps trying to get cute with skill-position picks while neglecting the foundation of the roster.

What good are highly talented skill players if your defensive line can’t consistently rush the passer and your defense can’t stop the run? That’s not a championship caliber roster. It’s a talented roster with fundamental weaknesses.

The Lions have spent heavily on skill and offensive talent, but the physical foundation still isn’t where it needs to be. Championship teams win in the trenches, especially when the game gets tight and the weather gets ugly. You can’t scheme your way out of getting pushed around at the line of scrimmage.

Holmes seems far too focused on collecting talented pieces instead of building a complete, physically dominant football team. At some point, you have to stop chasing shiny toys and start fixing the foundation. Talent alone doesn’t make a championship team. You need strength, depth, and dominance in the trenches and right now, the Lions aren’t getting that.

Also, the tight-ends on the roster can’t block!!! Brock Wright is a joke! It’s sad because Campbell was a TE. He should know the importance of blocking TEs.

YUP.

We need to fire Brad. He is trash.

The other thing I don’t understand is why hasn’t Brad brought in anyone to this roster.

He used to bring in recent pro bowl players like Zeitler, Anzalone, Davis, Monty, Reader

They were all probowlers or close to when signed

Not 5 years ago like White

He let Leaf walk for $3m thats how much we wasted on Dortch and Pachecco.

Signed Reed for pennies cheaper than Davis walked for. And he is WAY worse.

What was the last good free agent (above average starter) they signed that’s currently on the team?

I dont think there is a single one.

Alex Anzalone had never sniffed a pro bowl in his life before Detroit

D-Mo either

This year, 4 of their 7 draft picks were spent on offensive or defensive linemen, including their first two picks.

Last year, 4 of their top 5 draft picks were spent on offensive or defensive linemen, including their first two picks.

He could cover tight ends though. And we sure can’t do that anymore.

He’s better than jags we have now but i think he was dramatically overrated at that and if played on a defense without Branch and Kerby people wouldn’t feel this way

Based on Anzalone’s first game with the Bucs, neither can he.

True. But for LB2. He was well above average.

The FA the lions have on the roster are not even above average.

Bates isnt above average statistically.

Reed might be above average for a CB2 not CB1.

White not above average LB3

Wannum is not even close to above avg DE2.

Mayes, Scruggs, Bartch. None are above average starters.

Pachecco might be above average RB2. Oops hurt again.

So again brad brought no NO ONE

Yea I understand why we moved off of him. Getting old and expensive but we didn’t replace his ability to cover tight ends with anyone new. In 2 games tight ends have 200 yards and multiple TD’s against us. Actually 4 td’s given up to Tight ends. Yikes.

Those guys aren’t good. Just because they’re drafted high doesn’t make them good.

WAS is the key word. He wanted more then he was worth and he has fallen off the cliff.

We are stooping to blasting the resigning of Bates?

Reed, the guy that was not targeted yesterday?

The former top 5 pro bowl super bowl winning LB? Now I am not a huge fan of him and he can’t cover but the lions picked him up on a flyer and he is insanely athletic. What the hell is the issue with taking a flyer on the upside.

He is good enough.

Mayes is going to be a very good Center for us. All the above average starters are signed and their teams aren’t letting them go. Do you not realize the value of above average OL play?

You keep saying ABOVE AVERAGE players via FA. Those would be big money talented signing. Detroit already has mutiple above average players at qb, running back, wr, tight end, OL, DE, LB and Safety (when healthy).

Stop saying they didn’t bring NO ONE IN. They did…..you are just complaining.

So you admit he hasn’t neglected the lines? Now you just don’t like the players he’s taken?

Tate Ratledge, Blake Miller, Tyleik Williams, and Skylar Gill-Howard haven’t been good this year?

Brother, that’s the key to most of these convos. People with very strong opinions.
