Paschal absence due to treatment after cancer screening

Good news - Paschal says the cancer isn’t back

Bad news - Something came up that needed dealing with quick smart

Forget football, cancer can go ■■■■ itself. Best wishes to Paschal, and I hope cancer stays the ■■■■ away from all Den users and the people they care about.

If I had to make a somewhat educated guess…

I would think he may have had a skin biopsy…
as a precautionary measure.

Patients with melanoma history are recommended to have a skin examination at least 1 time annually… and he did mention it was an annual check up that initiated this process.

I hope we all learn the cause of our cancers and stay away from the causes. Medicine has no interest in a cure. Healthy people don’t fill the coffers at Blackrock, State Street, and Vanguard.
*Sorry, I’m watching a dear friend die. Stage 4 brain and lung cancer. He only has hours. Days at best.
I’m pissed!

Vanguard is owned by its funds, which are owned by the funds’ shareholders. This means that Vanguard is owned by its customers, and there are no outside shareholders.

Blackrock sure, i just dont see vanguard that way

Yeah, I used to own Vanguard, too.

As corrupt as big pharma may be….

I have personally witnessed people make amazing recoveries with some of the new medications used to treat various forms of cancer. It does depend how n the cancer type… and how far it has progressed before treatment.

In addition… I will point out that a few types of cancer already have high cure rates. Testicular cancer has a >95% cure rate.
Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is near 90% cure rate for young patients… and most people affected are young.

As far as the notion that a cure could be found… but they don’t want to cure it… there are far too many patients who get diagnosed… and already have widespread metastases.
Mets to the brain, lungs, liver, or bones…. there just isn’t any way to survive that long term.

Im sorry for your friend. Im 4 years out from throat cancer treatment and my ent told me if i told him id never had throat cancer he’d believe me. Im very lucky. The side effects suck and are slowly getting worse but im still here to watch pur first super bowl this year. Again, im ridiculously lucky. A lot arent and i hate it. It broke my heart going in for treatment and seeing people in much worse shape than me, much younger. But i dont think it helps to push the bs of there being a cure that we cant have, it absolutely demeans the hard work from these doctors doing incredibly hard work watching their patents wither away right in front of them.

@LionFrog terrible terrible to hear. I hope for comfort during these hours and for communication among family and friends. And the support of the Den.

I promise you doctors care. No one wants someone to do poorly on their watch. Everyone sees the attachment of families and friends and it resonates in their care.

And as @Phunnypharm said, new drugs are coming out at an incredible pace, so much so that there are pharmacy fellowships in oncological drugs alone.

Everyone is working and everyone who interacts with patients wishes for a god damn cure.

I’m with you all on ■■■■ cancer!

I’ve lost 3 siblings, my mom, a niece and a very close friend to various types of cancer.

Hard to believe we do not know more about the disease than we do.

Hope Paschal can play this week a Cancer stays away.

Sorry to hear that @LionFrog . I’ve watched too many so close to me die from cancer. I agree with what you’re saying.

The tough part is that it isn’t one disease.

Heck… even “breast cancer” isnt one disease.

There are breast cancers that have little involvement of estrogen or progesterone receptors and don’t involve the HER2 receptor.
This type of breast cancer is known as triple negative breast cancer. It is not as common (10-20% of breast cancers), but is also more aggressive… and has few medication options.

The patients that have an estrogen receptor or progesterone receptor positive type will be treated differently…. and be given a type of estrogen receptor blocker (tamoxifen is most widely known)…. in addition to any other necessary treatments (surgery, chemo, radiation )

If a patient has HER2 positive breat cancer, the newer treatments have led to a survival rate of >75% over 10 years.
There are several monoclonal antibodies used to help treat these patients.

That is just one body part.

There are different treatment options for every different location of cancer… and genetic testing has changed the way each patient is treated.

.
Unfortunately… I have to say once again… it often isn’t a problem of the medical treatment not know how to treat a cancer… survival outcomes are more dependent on how soon a cancer is diagnosed.

This why there are commercials urging people to check for suspicious skin growths, lumps in the breasts, colonoscopies, and yearly pap smears for ladies.

Sone cancer types are more difficult to treat (pancreatic, lung, gynecological)…. so that is definitely an area that needs a breakthrough.

Cancer sucks - prayer for you and your friend frog… just lost my brother last year to it…

Some of you may remeber and I personally had stents put in eighth years ago… diet is a huge factor imho - to include warding off cancer…. Stopped eating what I wanted and eating only what I needed or need…. My cardiologist is surprised how long I’ve gone without needing more stents or straight up surgery (so far) but I feel eating clean and only when I gingery helped…. I even got off my Blood thinners ….

Love you all
