Penn State fires James Franklin

And we’ll gladly welcome you on the fire Moore bandwagon in ‘27 or ‘28 after Moore has squandered a tremendous opportunity. We shall see who ends up being right.

Do you believe in Moore? With your head rather than your heart I mean.

Yes and Maybe

I see one of the best recruiters around, but I’m honestly not sure about his coaching abilities.

I saw a team last year that looked lost most of the season, but then pulled out two very impressive wins at the end.

I’m really not sure what he is yet. Next year will tell the tale.

It’s a “style” of football. It wasn’t that Rich Rodriguez wasn’t from the program that irritated those behind the scenes, it’s that he went to a spread. Fickell made the same mistake.

It was far far more than that.

It was the timing of Harbaugh’s exit. Like some of us said at the time, Moore wasn’t the best choice, but he was the right choice for the moment.

Moore will get another year. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. The program isn’t even close to the state it was in when Harbaugh was brought in, which makes the Moore hiring the right decision at the time.

There always is at Michigan.

Next year will be their. Osu and uofm will be at it for a few years. Both have or will have great qbs. Fire Moore would put Michigan in a deep hole

The problem with Moore is he could end up being a very good HC. Very few dudes just hit the ground winning. He needs some time

I am just not sure he will win enough to be allowed to stick around to get good. Or maybe he will be middling?

Ten years ago I would say yes he’s safe. With all the money being given to build a roster? That’s a whole different dynamic. We’ll see how much pressure donors bring down.

Agreed on this one. At best he could coach at OSU but anywhere else outside of the SEC would not be a fit IMO

That’s where I’m at. I lean into thinking he’a not it but I don’t know it yet. I worry less about recruiting with the current rules. Especially as long as Ellison is a benefactor.

To not give him one more year would make no sense. Anyone calling for him to be fired now is wrong. Maybe he is not the right guy but he gets one more year. Recruited well and last year was left with an awful plate.

He does need to do some work on the coordinator front still.

Cignetti has made it tough on other coaches.

I’m not going to audit the thread but I don’t think anyone here thinks Moore should be fired

But it is alarming how badly they’ve played in their two biggest games this year.

And that their biggest win came when he was not coaching the team.

So who’s paying for Franklin’s buyout? $53 million I think I read.

Wild, literally was in the playoffs this very calendar year

I am just think Moore has not settled on who he is yet.

Even Hairball had some struggles the first few seasons until he went all in on what he believed would win. I think Moore is still trying to decide how he wants to do and whom should be his coordinators.

I have not watched a ton but they have looked best when running the rock and stopping the run first. That USC game they looked like they could not decide what they wanted to commit to offensively. And the defense was disorganized.

Go back to basics. Commit to the run and commit to stopping the run.
