Pistons Draft & beyond

Deep value. As was KJ at 20.

Such a great name. Unless he has to play a road game in Damascus.

Then he would change his name to Paul, amirite?

Too Sunni?

Probably would’ve made more money at msu. Oh well his height is a big reason he dropped.

Here are the best players still on the board entering Day 2 of the draft on Friday.

What say you? Any stand out, or other not listed? Or no interest, maybe a trade out?

Sion, Kalk, Broome would work for me.

Point Guard

Tyrese Proctor, PG, Duke

Kam Jones, PG/SG, Marquette

Wing

Chaz Lanier, Tenn

Jamir Watkins, SG/SF, Florida State

Hunter Sallis, Guard, Wake Forest

Koby Brea, SG/SF, Kentucky

Rasheer Fleming, SF, Saint Joseph’s

John Tonge, SF, Wisconsin

Alex Toohey, SF, Australia

Noah Penda, SF, France

Sion James, SF, Duke

Power forward/Center

Adou Thiero, PF, Arkansas

Bogoljub Markovic, PF, Serbia

Maxime Raynaud, PF/C, Serbia

Ryan Kalkbrenner, C, Creighton

Johni Broome, C, Auburn

Eric Dixon, C, Villanova

Rocco Zikarsky, C, Australia

Kalkbrenner would be bc a coup IMO. I think Proctor is going to be a nice rotational piece. Reynaud’s shooting at 7ft. will no doubt be a hot commodity tonight. Fleming might be the best basketball player left. With Broome I worry about the movement when in space defensively but otherwise what’s not to like?

They should get a player that can help to some extent next year.

TheAthletic prediction for Detroit:

Chaz Lanier | 6-4 wing | 24 years old | Tennessee

Lanier is one of the draft’s premier shooters, having taken more shots off screens this year than any player in college basketball and converting them at a solid clip. Overall, Lanier averaged 18 points per game while drilling 40 percent of his 3s last season at Tennessee and is seen as a very real potential floor spacer at the NBA level. He has a real shot at being a guaranteed deal.

I hope we don’t take Broome. He’s old, too undersized to be a true NBA center, and he has absolutely no jumpshot. He’s like Jalen Duren without the athleticism.

He shot 35% from 3 in 2024. It’s a really slow release though. My worry is about the other side of the ball.

Can’t really disagree, but 2nd round nba picks are seldom successful. While he is older, he is more NBA ready than most, and this team can (or should) be in Win Now mode. I view him as a total boom/bust, like most 2nd rounders.

Kalkbrenner’s floor is very, very high IMO

TheAthletic have him going to Charlotte at pick 34

Ryan Kalkbrenner | 7-1 big | 23 years old | Creighton

The Hornets traded starting center Mark Williams on Wednesday and have a real need on the interior, even with Moussa Diabate and Jusuf Nurkić in the fold. Kalkbrenner is also quite different from those players as a drop-coverage guy who can also step away and shoot and is quite efficient around the rim offensively. This would be a fantastic get for the Hornets, who seem to be prioritizing a positive culture in their draft picks in the first round with Kon Knueppel and Liam McNeeley.

He’ll go quickly for sure. Reynaud will too in all likelihood.

TheAthletic projects To Boston at #32:

Maxime Raynaud | 7-0 center | 22 years old | Stanford

Raynaud has the kind of game that has to appeal to the Celtics. He’s a big man who can dribble, pass and shoot the basketball after averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds last season at Stanford. He’s not the best passer in the world, and he’s a bit slow. But he’s also highly intelligent and has been on a rapidly positive ascent over the last six years of his basketball career. It’s easy to buy into him continuing to work to figure it out.

ima be real, i wonder if we off load Tobias Harris and try to get Naz Reid

I get it on Reid. I think he’s trending up while Harris is trending down. Issue is as he will want a multi-year contract aroubd what Harris makes or more and I hope that they are trying to keep that power forward slot open for a more max contract type guy after the season ends

fair, but his skill set fits perfectly with us and stretchs the floor

JJJ should be the ultimate target but i think with Bane gone, Grizz has all the money to re-sign him to a max

Naz should be #2 in terms of targets

If in the end the best upgrade the next two years is Naz Reed then they have failed. I’m not knocking Reid or you I’m just saying that guy will never be a third Superstar or any kind of Superstar. He would be number six at best talent level on this team as it stands right now

I know it isn’t Piston’s related but this whole Ace kid drafted #5 who didn’t do any team meetings or interviews and isn’t in Utah today(not sure if that is unexpected). Just seems weird supposedly the 2nd best player in the draft and refused any and all meetings
