“No rising stars”
That alone makes you wrong not to mention other areas.
Won’t clutter the nba thread on Tigers.
Whose a rising star other than Green and Keith. Which are decent hitters. Not great, not good. Decent. Middle of the order.
And keith is HORRIBLE defensively.
So again out side of pitching whose a rising star. Aka a top 4 of the order hitter on a playoff team? No one.
You said No…
Then you have Skubal
Now you bring up keith and Green.
Again, Tigers topic not NBA bring it there to continue.
I do believe that. The opposite of the Lions.
That said there was every reason to not take who fell to you in this weak draft. Get an asset, any asset.
Carter went 13. He can shoot way better than Holland.
Let’s just say Langdon isn’t off to a flying start.
Holland is a great pick imo.
The kid went straight to G-league and lead it in scoring and was top 5 in 4 different categories. The kid is super athletic and can fly.
I heard the Pistons brought in a great shooting coach and I’m sure they’ll have Holland working with him starting day 1.
This pick isnt for this year, it’s for the future. Holland could be the best player to come out of this draft. Hopefully they can clean-up his turnovers and make him a shooter.
I wanted Clingan. He was right there.
And they took another guard who can’t shoot–in a league that revolves around accurate 3-point shooting.
It makes absolutely no sense to me. None. It’s a Troy Weaver move, and he was fired weeks ago.
Thats a Weaver move, acquiring athletes who cant shoot. Diallo, Thompson, Jackson, Ivey ( ok he is an ok shooter, but not great), how has that worked out for us? None of that other stuff matters if we dont have shooters who can space the floor.
As opposed to another center who cant shoot? We already have enough of those.
Centers like Clingan are very limited in this perimeter oriented league. Even the generational version of that type of player in Gobert can be neutralized completely in some games because he can’t guard perimeter bigs.
Holland with all his flaws has a higher upside than Clingan because athletic wingers are gold in the NBA. He has a ways to go but if he can get that 3 up to even average levels, that’s a real valuable player in today’s NBA.
Not a fan of the pick btw but I can see a pathway to a really good player for Holland if he works at it hard enough.
Who did you want us to draft then?
From ESPN:
In other trades prior to the Thursday’s second round of the draft (4 p.m. ET, ESPN), the Minnesota Timberwolves traded guard Wendell Moore Jr. and the 37th pick to the Detroit Pistons for the 53rd selection, sources confirmed to ESPN.
Moore has been a bust so far, so looks like Langdon agreed to take on his contract (only $2.5M) to move up 16 spots in the 2nd.
If you think Holland can’t shoot, don’t even look at Moore’s career 3FG%.
Another interesting tidbit:
Ron Holland and Ennis Rakestraw went to the same high school.
Some shooters still available at the top of round two.
I change my mind now it is a Great pick
For those wanting a 3 point shooter:
Cam Christie, G
Age: 18 | Ht./Wt.: 6-6, 190 | Minnesota
Christie was a late riser during the pre-draft process who had the potential to sneak into the back half of the first round with how well he was performing in team workouts. He averaged 11.3 points and shot 39% from 3-point range during his freshman year at Minnesota. He’s a bit of a late bloomer and that could have contributed to teams taking a more established guard like Terrence Shannon Jr. or Dillon Jones in the first round.
He can at least play defense.
I get the upside argument with Holland. All of it is based around the idea that he gets his brutal shooting percentage last year turned around.
If he does? Great.
Would I bet on it? No.
There wasn’t anybody in this draft who was going to come here and make any kind of big difference. That’s why I’m ok with them taking a swing for the fences. If the guy does develop an outside shot, it’s a homerun. If not, he won’t make any less of a difference than the other guys we could have drafted.
I don’t love the pick, but it’s definitely not worth getting worked up over.
