I literally gave them to you. Do you think he can’t actually run and move as quickly as he did at the combine?
Or do you just think he won’t really “get it” until his third year like Barnes and so might not have the play speed to match?
Your ragging on Campbell’s speed is what has not been seen outside one blown assignment and some made-up stuff about coaches whispering that he’s slow.
Not knowing what a player will do before he takes ONE regular season NFL snap is normal, what is abnormal is putting him in the Hall of Fame before that ONE snap. You guys beat everything. Campbell may or may succeed in the NFL, my questioning his speed based on what I SEE, means I believe my own eyes and not what anybody is telling me. I get, and see the hype, I will be sold on Campbell when does it on Sundays. There have been too many players that the hype was wrong about on both sides of the coin. If Jack Campbell performs well on NFL Sundays I will be the first to give him his accolades.
Well, to use your criteria, you haven’t seen him take one regular season snap, so your eyes haven’t seen anything, so slow your role.
We have also seen how you utilize your eyes over the last two seasons when it comes to Barnes, AA, and MR, point being you have given enough reason to question your eyesight.
Barnes- According to My eyes, I have consistently said that Barnes is a very good player that needs opportunity. This year it appears he will get that opportunity. You will se my eyes are fine. By the way the beat writers are catching up with the analogy that I have had for two years.
Anzalone- My eyes say he is a pet of Campbells and does not come off the field no matter what. I can’t find a beat writer who doesn’t agree that Anzalone’s is a favorite of the Lions coaching staff and stays on the field, in fact he is being given a pass to start this year again all writers believe the competition is for the other LB spot. My eyes are fine.
Rodrigo- My eyes say he started as a result of jersey sells and being a fan favorite of Hard Knocks, that is not to say that Rodrigo did not bring anything to the table, he did, I did not see enough to make him a starter his rookie year. Rodrigo is a good linebacker, I believe his career was catapulted my Hard Knocks.
Will he start this year, I say no. My eyes are fine.
No, most here said that Barnes needed to improve and learn the expanded role that the Lions were asking of him compared to what he did at Purdue. You typically responded it was all about favoritism. I would tell you that Barnes is doing what most here were waiting for him to do and hoping he would.
AA, meh same old conspiracy crap.
MR, more of the same old .
Many, if not most of the board, are saying that MR won’t start due to Barnes improved play, AA, and JC.
Wait, didn’t you just reference two other guys times in support of your original argument. So what makes those guys times in the 4.6’s valid times, but not Campbell’s RAS times?
The other guys have played in the NFL, Campbell has not, therefore there has been plenty of opportunity to verify their times with my own eyes. We will see with Campbell, I have not seen anything thus far that verifies his elite speed as a linebacker compared to other linebackers in the NFL. In Fact he looks slower to me, than other NFL linebackers. I do not see the closing speed. See the below pictures, the firstpictures are were Campbell and Barnes started, the second pictures is how the play ended. Barnes was able to tag Taylor down before Campbell got there, by the way Campbell was credited with the tackle even though Barnes tagged him down.
Barnes is closer, not only downfield, but also across the field. He’s much closer to the hash than Campbell is. This means that Campbell has more ground to cover to get to the QB.
This is literally the Pythagorean theorem in action. There’s an issue if Campbell gets to Taylor before Barnes does.
Also worth keeping in mind that Jack is kind of like the LBer equivalent of the bell cow back that excels
in the fourth quarter but for different reasons. As the game progresses he’s filling that supercomputer of
his with offensive tendencies which then allows himself (and teammates given proper communication) to play even faster when it matters most.
Barnes has the potential to be an absolute terror. In time that’s the duo I’d prefer to be out there.
But Jack in addition to himself being a great player has the potential to be a rare force multiplier for the defense due to the ineffable stuff that he has in spades.
It’s pretty simple really. Anzalone is playing Will this year, so Barnes is not competing with Anzalone anymore. Cap has now moved on to bashing Jack Campbelll because he’s in direct competition with Barnes for the starting Mike spot. No matter who Barnes is competing against Cap will do everything he can to bash that guy. We have seen it time after time after time over the past 2 years.
Personally I don’t give a shit who plays linebacker. I just want a good defense and winning team. Let the best men win the jobs.
Loyalty is great. But allowing loyalty to remove objectivity in assessments takes away any credibility the person may have had. Really is sad that a decent poster can’t be taken serious about anything because of their blind obsessive lack of objectivity on a singular topic.
I actually like Barnes at Mike now that he’s getting much better at play recognition. His closing speed and tackling ability is really good when he diagnoses a play properly, which has been his biggest weakness his first 2 years in the league. But, I do see improvement there, hopefully he makes it very hard for Jack to earn a starting spot. Having competition is a really good thing.
