I understand the concern at RB past Gibbs but that’s a position that historically is easy to trade for in season for little to nothing AND there’s usually someone on the couch that’s competent basically all year.
I’m much more concerned about the outside corner room.

You lose 1 of those skill guys. You still have 3 probowlers and 1 good starter. If the 5th guy is mid? Oh well. Odds are they are only getting 30-40% of snaps anyway. And 5? Touches. How much of an impact is that really

That’s a concern too but am actually a little less concerned there because they have some high pedigree depth and some vets who have been around and done well in the league. Plus I think the defensive line will be so good this year that the secondary flaws won’t be as exposed. The lack of quality depth behind Gibbs to couple with the offensive line questions makes me feel uneasy.

Possibly the difference of a win. Being the 1 seed, winning the division, or being a wild card team. Maybe losing in the NFC championship…because you were running out a Vildor type player vs a veteran with experience 
Would I rather see a 3rd and 4 pass go to Greg Dortch because Ra is out with a groin injury. Or Lucky Jackson who’s never made an NFL catch?

Or Jamo or TeSlaa or Brock Wright or any of our other weapons.
Or, throw it to the unknown guy who showed out in camp and trust him to make the catch. It’s not like he’s guaranteed to drop it or something.

The concern is when our WR#3 becomes WR#2 and RB#2 becomes RB#1

Sure, guys screw up. Was Reynolds a net negative for us? No. Is Jamo, despite throwing that pick in the Washington game? No? Dortch might have screwed up too.
I just really can’t fathom the idea that one depth guy is so much better than another. Is it the experience? Cause there’s 30 experienced jags sitting out there right now to be added.
That’s a problem whether we have Dortch or not! It’s a problem for all of those elite teams I just listed up there!

The rules don’t allow you to be deep everywhere.
Hollywood Brown, Demarcus Robinson, Tory Horton…those are what you call weak 4s? If those guys are on the same level as Tay Martin then yes, everyone is in our boat.
And the Rams are running out the probably the best defense in the entire nfl. Their depth on offense isn’t as near the concern of ours. They have 2 starters at RB and at least 4 NFL caliber TEs. But yes, WR depth is weak.
Cincys depth sucks too. Give you that one. They spend a boatload on defense. Rightfully so because it was awful.

We had more depth at the skill positions each of the last four years. Do you disagree?
We were better suited to weather games missed by Williams, St Brown, Gibbs, LaPorta (which we demonstrably did) than we are today. Do you disagree?
If you don’t disagree, do you agree that it is more reasonable to be concerned about this today than 365 days ago?

Yes, I agree.
But you have created a false dilemma for me. I agree with your minor premise, but not your major conclusion. It is relative risk, not absolute risk. It is not a binary choice where either we have great depth or we are in trouble, roster construction is a game of trade-offs.
I also believe we are much stronger at DL and OL. To me that is more important. If I have to sacrifice depth at WR to make that so, I’m fine with it. Yes, our margin for error in this specific case has shrunk slightly, but I think it has very little effect on our overall outlook.
