PREDICTION: Denver Broncos vs. Detroit Lions

I just hope Ben Johnson remembers tonight that he has the RB that leads the league in 20+ yard runs and averages 5.4 ypc.

Wasnt Commish in Alim’s role as 3T last week?

hes usually been of the edge, and last year he played mainly inside

i wonder if hes just naturally better inside than on the EDGE

He was inside a lot last week. Hope to see more of it. He’s giving guards issues with his speed

he was also really good last year inside

maybe Mcneil becoming 3Tech has put him out of position, cause hes been very quiet on the edge this year.

if Commish plays like he did last week till Mcneil comes back, there is an argument to split both in that role.

NFL Network…. pregame coverage… has Steve Smith and Gerald McCoy talking about Lions game.

McCoy mentions that Christmas is the season of giving…

and Goff ā€œmust really have the Christmas spirit… because he is giving the ball awayā€ā€¦.

Lions are getting back to being the butt end of jokes recently.

Hope they can turn this trend around….

This is my thing with this specific coaching group.

They have clearly done wayyyy more good than bad. It’s been an awesome ride.

  • Iffy is clearly playing better, rated better, bigger, faster etc than Walker. Not sure how or why it took this long.

  • Jacobs has regressed a ton since week 6-7 and even though his speed was a liability at times then, he was at least feast or famine. It’s been famine for awhile. It was a time like this Jacobs got his snaps in 21’. Is Gilmore really that much worse? Gilmore had way better speed coming out and since Jacob’s has had knee issue. Gilmore was a ball hawk, got sacks and TFL?

  • we play better under center and in rythym with Monty in there to set the tone

  • Hutch plays better moving around, and when we kick guys like Comish and Paschal inside with Hutch and Romeo outside we can get pressure

  • Kerby should never blitz or play in the box again.

  • AA is in a cast. He couldn’t wrap up, and said himself he can’t catch. Is there any reason not to let Jack play MLB and Barnes or JRM next to him?

They can, but it depends if they choose to?

Ben is trying to force Gibbs and Jamo on the field. Maybe I would separate their snaps as much as possible for now.

Jamo doesn’t seem to be running ANY intermediate or short routes consistently. Gibbs can’t pass block for shit. Goff gets ball out of shotgun, they blitz, no time to get to Jamo with a free rusher…. Dump off at best.

Maybe put Jamo in the slot, keep TE in to block, play action to Monty and keep him in initially to block… let Jamo and Ra run a combo over under route. If they pound it inside out of that look a few times, Jamo could easily take the top off if a safety bites.

It feels like Ben refuses to accept Goff has had the least amount of time to throw in the NFL over the last 3 weeks.

Because AA is the coaches pet…

Dumb And Dumber GIF

I know-

Does it feel like a tiny disconnect at
Times between Brad and Dan?

I’m OK with both being on field… particularly if they hand either one of them the DAMM ball…. and not just running Gibbs on inside zone.

Jamo is horribly underutilized on run plays…
and Gibbs is much more effective with gap scheme blocking getting him outside the tackles.

Again, my comment was that outside of struggling with the portion of scripted offense and having the 1:40 of despair to end the third quarter, the defense was pretty sound. During that period of play gave up just over 3 yards passing per minute and a full game run rate of 188 yards passing. If you want to negate the last 9 minutes bc of game script, that’s fine. Then the number jumps to a run rate of 235 yards passing. Since the Bears offense found its footing in week 4, Justing Fields averages 245 yards passing in games that he was not knocked out of by injury. The number would be higher except versus us during our first game he threw three passes in the last 18 minutes. If also would have been higher if Getsy wasn’t afraid to throw anything but a screen pass at Minny.

So the numbers do bear out what I saw with my own eyes. Outside of the scripted portion of the game and the very end of the third quarter the defense was somewhere between league average and slightly above average.

He had a hand injury. Iffy is ALWAYS injured

Bears had 2 possessions in 2nd quarter…
and Lions got 2 stops.

Outside of the 2nd quarter…

Bears scored 6 times in 7 possessions before the outcome of game was decided.

I know. Excellent defensive performance, right?

Miami has similar setup with more refined WR1/2

They pound with Mostert. They run Waddle shallow and let Hill run off his coverage and break to a soft spot in the middle.

If Jamo could get a feel for route running, he’d be a weapon like that with lesser hands, but still lethal.

Zero faith with the defense oline and goff

That’s true. Good point

The more important measure of a defense is points allowed. In the period of the game that I’ve been speaking of we allowed 6 points which I’d say is pretty good.

So again, outside of defending the scripted offense and that 1:40eltdown the defense was pretty good.

No disrespect Curious…but I hate that saying scripted offense the announcers say that all the time. The defense has all week to prepare too. No excuse for getting whooped on the first drive so often. Get some pressure and ā– ā– ā– ā–  up their plan.

End rant.

No disagreement. They have to step up in that regard. It’s been a problem consistently. Though that is just about the hardest offense to stop.

And why would I be offended. I’ve been consistent that the performance against scripted offense and the complete 1:40 meltdown are in acceptable.

That doesn’t change the fact that those two factors as well as preconceived biases have precluded huge chunks of the board from
noticing recent signs of defensive improvement.
