The Pack have been very successful with QBs while Cleveland and Detroit have not. It takes years to learn the position. So why not groom for the future and get a QB in Round 1? Brad has shown he can pick great players in later rounds so we Can hunt for OL and DL there. Why not plan for Goff leaving in 2-3 years. It didn’t work with Hendon Hooker but think we should try again In the first round.
He is 30 and we don’t really have an out on his contract for three more years. Hope is we are picking in the late 20s/early 30s for the next few drafts so unless a steal falls into your lap I think we can stick a pin in it for 2 or 3 years at least
I’m obviously a big OSU fan, but in the event that Underwood is available for us to draft at that point in time, I think we need to take that opportunity.
I mean on one hand you want to make sure you are taking care of the QB position. But in the other if you grab someone too soon you will regret it somewhat as you will like need to trade them and sure if they can give a nice return you have done well.
I kind of feel like they can get a solid backup off the trash heap for now and worry about the starter when that needs to be addressed. Goff is in his prime. Projecting when he will fall off is a hard thing to predict. If anything I would be a fan of a cheap running QB but then they would have to take up a roster spot on game day and would they be better than the existing backup in running the normal offense. Would be better served to do direct snaps to Dmo or Jah.
The expected salary renegotiations these days make that difficult to take a QB in round one and sit them on the bench. QBs get their new contract, which almost always resets the market, after year three
The Packers got lucky Love has turned out as well as he has because they were forced to pay him top tier QB money before he had proven himself as a multi year starter
Imagine how long it would set a team back if they had drafted Trey Lance or Anthony Richardson in the first and pay them 50 million a year before realizing they don’t have it when handed the starter role
Eating a first round contract is bad enough. Eating that contract then paying them top QB money…
Round 1? A CENTER TO PREPARE FOR Glascow getting too old. We don’t want to repeat what we just did, we were lucky GG could step in or we would have been screwed. This time, 1st round, best center on the board, or lineman we can turn into a center.
Yep. Big Frank was the OG of this rebuild. Though he was drafted before this regime, once we had him, it was obvious we had a great center. The reason I want that no1 pick used is because the center position is so important. He is the captain of the OL, does so muc coverage call outs, deals with the qb more than any other player, and to me, the personality of the center is almost as important as the qb’s personality. So the draft interviews for centers should be almost as importnt as interviews for qb’s. Frank had it all, a great rappore with Goff and his team mates, brains, ability. So yeah, for me, I think we need the very best center on the board or lineman that can be made into one. I don’t want no darn 5th rounder holding all our hopes for such an important position. In fact, what would we even do now if GG went down? It is scary to think of GG not beng available. Man, yes, round one=best center on the board.
